‘Mensch’ Dan Adler targets minorities with stereotype-laden ad
‘Mensch’ Dan Adler targets minorities with stereotype-laden ad

By Rachel Rose Hartman

What's the best way to reach out to Asian voters?

Tell them you're Jewish so you can relate. Right

That's the route Democratic candidate Dan Adler took in his most recent ad for California's 36th District special election. In a heavily staged discussion among constituents at a set suggestive of a Korean-owned dry cleaner, the former Disney executive tells a woman behind the counter--who speaks with a heavy Asian accent--that he can relate to her concerns because "my wife is Korean."

"You're Jewish," she replies.

"My family is Jewish."

1. I think I will vote for Janice Hann. Debra Bowen needs to stay
as Secretary of State and I think Hann has the best chance of winning of all the Democrats. My fear is that repuke Craig Huey will win. I went to college with him and know him. Huey's a RW nut, he belonged to the colleg branch of Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) Willaim F. Buckley's far right group. They changed the name to Young America's Foundation but a rose by any other name still stinks. My area is filthy with his stinky signs. x(

2. Agreed Debra Bowen needs to stay SOS
She was just reelected in Nov, kind of soon to be leaving her office.

3. A republican isn't going to win this district
Hahn is easily the worst choice between her Bowen, and Winograd. she has taken a lot of money from sketchy corporate PAC's and has a record of being kind of sleazy and manipulative. She basically used the fact that Harman told her she was retiring (before she announced it publicly) to shore up a bunch of endorsements and get front-runner status.

I would rather see Bowen as SoS but for whatever reason she has decided she wants to be in congress and I trust her. Winograd is also one of the best and most progressive candidates in the country and in my opinion should have had the democratic field to herself considering her history in running for this district.

Whatever you do dont vote for Hahn she is a typical labor-based establishment type willing to do anything to further her own political career. Bowen and Winograd are two candidates I would love to vote for in any race, how anyone could pick Hahn over those two is beyond me.

4. Ok, I'm not really set on Hann I like Winograd best.
Ordinarily I know no way could a repuke win this district. The problem is so many Democrats are running I'm afraid they will split the vote and a rightwing nut repuke like Huey will take it. :scared:

5. This is just the primary
Whichever two candidates (out of all the parties) get the most votes, face off in the actual general election later. It will likely be either Hahn or Bowen and either Mike Gin or Craig Huey.

I would probably vote for Bowen at this point since sadly Winograd has been pretty much left in the dust and its basically a race between Hahn and Bowen.

6. THANKS I was confused as to if it was a primary
or not because all candidates are on the same ballot. I was afraid it was whoever got the highest vote count. I certainly won't be voting for Hann.
