YET ANOTHER New oil slick appears in Gulf of Mexico near Deepwater Horizon
http://www.examiner.com/environmental-news-in-tallahassee/new-oil-slick-appears-gulf-of-mexico-near-site-of-former-deepwater-horizon

Last year, during the height of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, nonprofit organization SkyTruth located a second leak just a few miles away at the former site of the Ocean Saratoga oil rig. The platform was damaged in 2004 during Hurricane Ivan, and was scheduled to be permanantly plugged by Taylor Energy, the owner of the well, during an operation to seal 26 leaking sites in the Gulf of Mexico last year.

This indicates as many as 251 barrels of oil spilling from the damaged oil well each day. The frightening thing about this figure, though it pales in comparison to last year's Deepwater Horizon incident, is the number of damaged and partially abandoned rigs in the Gulf of Mexico that are leaking potentially unchecked over a number of years. In fact, Taylor Energy still has not made any measurable ground on plugging its 26 abandoned wells.

The other alarming fact is how oil companies seem to get away with underreporting the amount of their spills in the Gulf. It seems that many operate on a veritable honor system when it comes to reporting accidents to government agencies. Just this past March, Houston-based Anglo Suisse was caught underreporting by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries as a 100 mile long oil sheen was spotted by independent pilots and fishermen in the area. That spill caused nearly 30 miles of shore impact along Grand Isle, LA.

3. Maybe you misunderstood.. the slick is coming from a leaking well nearby the deepwater horizon well.
and nothing to do with last years blowout.

7. No, I didn't misunderstand
ALL of the oil that spills everywhere just magically disappears. You know, the same as nuclear radiation.

11. Who are you being sarcastic to?
No one is saying this oil is going to "magically disappear".

13. Some of that is just basic physics.. not necessarily magic.
but I guess for some it may seem that way.

14. It seems as though BP, TEPCO, and the goverments involved
Are relying on magic (as well as non-coverage in the news and apathy of the majority of people these days), not basic physics, to provide cover themselves for the results of and their responsibility for their massive fuck-ups.

But I guess for some it may not seem that way.

I'm in a very sarcastic mood today for reasons that shall remain private.

Maybe it's best if I sign off for now.

Later.

5. K&R!
Oil exploration is still so reckless.

We taxpayers have given up billions in subsidies and Big Oil did not invest those billions in improving clean up technologies and making their processes safer.

I don't think we should authorize more "exploration" a.k.a. drilling until they have cleaned up and capped their previous mistakes.

15. Dozens or Hundreds of Leaks? Who Can Explain These Dots in the Gulf of Mexico.
Link below is to a Google Satellite view of the gulf near NOLA.

You'll see several round dots or spots, dark blue and dark grey.

http://tinyurl.com/LeakDotsGulf

I suspect they're petro leaks.

There are, after all, more than 40,000 MILES of pipeline in the GOM, some of it more than 50 years old.

We are way past the time for outrage, this new slick should be a call to us to learn more about what's out there and demand an end to it.
