ElBaradei urges ICC trial of Bush
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/176217.html
Former IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei says former US President George W. Bush and his administration's officials should be put on trial in the "International Criminal Court" (ICC) for waging war on Iraq.

ElBaradei in a new memoir, "The Age of Deception," says that the Bush administration officials should face international criminal investigation for the "shame of a needless war" in Iraq.

He accused then-President George Bush and his administration officials of "grotesque distortion" in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq with an excuse to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

The so-called hunt for WMD in Iraq, however, yielded no results.

The then US administration claimed that Iraq possessed WMD despite contrary evidence collected by ElBaradei's and other arms inspectors inside the country.

ElBaradei, who was the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 1997 to 2009, says his inspectors in Iraq have found certain aluminum tubes that were designed for artillery rockets, not for uranium enrichment equipment to build nuclear bombs, as Washington claimed.

I think the US government needs to address the IRAQ WAR and AFGHANISTAN WAR and even now the LIBYA WAR

with what we spent on these wars ....the bankruptcy of the country is obvious
and yet the military machine continues

1. I agree with el Baradei.
Have from the time that it was clear that the U.S.A. was using torture and giving illegal orders.

I believe that Blackwater should be in that dock with them.

It has always been my opinion that the murder of Saddam Hussein was to prevent Hussein from testifying against the Bush family in court.

4. It really is the main reason why we are where were at
Republicans need to take ownership of the Iraq War and the Shadow government

it is sad that Obama has not taken them to court but perhaps he is waiting for the World to try America

It is on the level of Nazi aggression in WWII
where he gobbled up country after country

Austria Belgium and then Poland

as Russia crumbled so our military machine will

9. We're hoarse from shouting and being ignored by those in power. But, K&R, one more time . . .
Investigate, indict, and try the sons of bitches.

You know Qutzupaloti, the tag-line for that personal icon really should be, "Eat the rich." Nice set of chompers.

3. I agree. And even though the U.S. won't try him or hand him over ...
at least a sustained international campaign could keep him from being able to freely travel outside the U.S.

7. Like the U.S. is going to hand over the man who kept us safe . . . except when he didn't
But I do like the idea of international pressure. Even though the American populace will remain blissfully ignorant of the hit our nation has taken in the eyes of the rest of the world, and the "America, Fuck yeah!" crowd can continue waving their flags and hooting over our latest hit jobs, it is good to know that some people can still discern right from wrong. I wonder what "justice" for Bush or the United States might look like in Afghanistan or Iraq. Probably a lot different from what it looked like in the United States' official proclamations at the beginning of this month.

10. While that would be awesome
I don't think the US is a signatory to the ICC and I doubt we ever will be without immunity for past transgressions. There were enough of our own laws to bring his administration to trial here. Hopefully this will build enough outside pressure to accomplish that goal someday.

13. "* did. May 6, 2002, that "the United States has no legal obligations arising from its signature"
http://usaforicc.org/policy/unsign.html

In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary General and in a speech by Under Secretary of State Marc Grossman, the Bush administration declared on May 6, 2002, that "the United States has no legal obligations arising from its signature" of the Rome Statute, in essence "unsigning" the ICC treaty and withdrawing US involvement in the Court.

* Transcript of briefing with Pierre Prosper, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues (May 6, 2002)
* Statement of Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense (May 6, 2002)
* European Union declaration expressing regret over the U.S. decision (May 13, 2002)
* Congressional letter to President Bush sent by Congressman Joseph Crowley and 44 of his congressional colleagues (May 22, 2002). "President Bush's repudiation of the Court drastically undermines the moral and legal credibility of the United States in the international arena and rejects the principle that war criminals and perpetrators of genocide should be brought to justice," Crowley said.

15. I don't think the criminal can declare he is unsigning atreaty
I think Bush has a bit of a problem just like Woo who said it was ok to torture

if they declare Bush is a criminal then his actions are criminal

Ultimatum to Europe in advance of Iraq war

US demands total impunity on war crimes

By Bill Vann

12 October 2002

With the Bush administration gearing up for a “preemptive” war against Iraq, Washington this week dispatched a senior US diplomat, Marisa Lino, to Europe to demand that the governments of the European Union (EU) agree to a blanket exemption of all US citizens from the jurisdiction of the newly formed International Criminal Court.

In May, the US formally rejected the treaty establishing the ICC, the first permanent international institution dedicated to trying cases of genocide, war crimes and other human rights abuses. Now it is insisting that governments around the world sign bilateral treaties agreeing not to turn over any American citizens in the event that they are indicted by prosecutors at the court.

19. Turning a Blind Eye to War Crimes...
...is ALSO a War Crime.

The USA is required by several treaties to investigate and prosecute possible War Crimes.
