1. I suppose the violence factor- no one has accused Assange of being violent
holding anyone against their will, etc.

2. Why don't you tell us what you think about that? Somehow, we never really know
where you stand on anything.

3. Two totally different scenarios and charges maybe?

Besides which, the Assange case appears to be wafer-thin...this IMF dude appears to do this as his party-trick...

5. I believe both should have their day in court. Assange, as we all know, has not
been charged with a crime.

10. And (so far anyway) the woman accusing him doesn't have any CIA links.
Unlike one of the women accusing Assange.

11. Why do you think the cases are related or similar?
Why should an opinion on one dictate an opinion on the other? Explain. This seems like gibberish, with a lemon twist of passive aggression to me.

16. So have thousands and thousands of other men.
That is not enough commonality. And what exactly are the charges standing against Assange? I was not aware he'd been charged. Please clarify. Accusation is a different level of things. Obama's minister pal McClurkin accuses gay people of trying to kill children. Is that the same as being charged, arrested, put in a line up and identified, awaiting trail? I mean, the straight world does lots of accusing just in the course of daily business. Not sure these random accusations are anything at all like arrest by the State of NY. How are they the same in your view?

18. More precisely, one has been charged of a crime by the state. The other is wanted for questioning.

Speaking of which, why has Assange not yet been charged?

22. Deliberate? Intentions of the DU member are unknown, and
criticism of the DU member could be judged to be a personal attack.

17. I'd like to know how this latest case is different from the accusations against Al Gore.
Remember? It wasn't that long ago that a masseuse claimed that Al Gore assaulted her in a hotel room. Less than a year, in fact.

21. You could probably say that about any two people/crimes
Edited on Mon May-16-11 04:51 PM by RZM
But you should probably just come out and state the point you are implying, which I believe to be the following:

Part of the disinterest in Assange's alleged crime (apart from the details of the case itself) comes from the fact that many people (especially on a progressive board) revere him for his Wikileaks work. Strauss-Kahn, although a man of the left, is the head of the IMF, which is not an institution many on DU care about. Those who do care about it probably don't view it in a positive light.

one.

so though i think both these people are piece of shits, i think Strauss-Kahn is much worse. creep. pig. scum. just off the top of my head

26. Strauss-Kahn is a financier. Why would you even ask that question?
A number of prominent DU posters hate any financier. Strauss-Kahn is not to be taken as a good guy, but the few good financiers in the world would not pass muster for some.

28. I don't judge either of them.
Both cases could have merit or not. Both men could've been set up Assange by the CIA and Strauss-Kahn perhaps by political adversaries in France. Both men have unsavory reputations but that would make sense if you wanted frame them.

The truth is we will never know if these men are guilty or if they are being framed. And it it doesn't matter what a court decides.

29. I don't give either of them a pass
but I think you've hit on something. Telling America's military secrets gives your sexcapades a pass around here, whereas being head of an international organization that imposes austerity measures on countries does not.

Thanks for having the courage to point out the contradiction.
