(UK - but I can see it here soon...) Parents' outrage at school toilet cameras
Parents' outrage at school toilet cameras

AN outraged father took three of his children out of a school in Ash after finding out that it had installed CCTV cameras inside the main toilets.

Jason West said that his children, aged 11, 13 and 14, came home from Ash Manor School desperately needing the toilet, because they were too worried about the cameras.

...
The CCTV cameras have since been taken down, and Ash Manor School parents received letters this week informing them about proposals to install the cameras again.

...
“We want them to feel confident and secure. There aren’t any problems in the toilets, but it’s an added security measure.”

1. This is a hanging curve over the plate, but I'm too busy getting popcorn:
I can think of a couple regulars here who are going to defend the right of a school to watch a kid take a crap or change a sanitary product. I'll stop now.

3. Aw, c'mon people.
Don't you remember? School personnel are much too busy ever to actually WATCH spy cameras they install!

6. They'll claim it was about bullying.
But it will actually be about graffiti and vandalism. Major, major problem at some schools. So is the bullying, for that matter, but very few administrators actually give a rat's ass about that, at least in my experience. The gang tagging/scratching does not make for an environment conducive to learning.

Locally we had a beautiful new high school campus built in a bad neighborhood, multi-nillion dollar architecture, really fantastic. A few kids decided to screw it up very quickly with vandalism. The principal was pissed, as was everyone else, at the actions of a few. Cameras in the restrooms are just creeper territory, and security guards for the toilets aren't really feasible, either (they're both creepy and expensive).

So the students show3ed up for school one Monday morning to find the bathroom doors all locked and porta-potties in the parking lot. A week of that and no more vandalism.

9. We have to think of the kids and their safety :)
Can't have them in a room to piss alone as Bin Laden might attack them
