Does your supermarket have this kind of website like Whole Foods does?
http://wholefoodsmarket.com/healthstartshere/

This is one point where I think the Whole Foods boycott is misguided. It seems that few of the players are teaching their customers to eat healthy, except Whole Foods and a few others.

1. This makes the second (that I've seen) promotional post for WF
from you, LoZoccolo... Do you work for them? I recognize the things WF does very well (and conversely those things that they do not)...I will certainly give them their due, but I can't help but be curious why you are singing their praises so strongly....

2. I think the Whole Foods boycott is an object lesson in strategy.
I think it demonstrates how strong emotions can interfere with getting a progressive agenda done.

11. They end up supporting a lot of suppliers who do things that progressives would like.
There are a lot of brands that farm sustainably, pay good wages, etcetera.

23. perhaps, but it still doesn't follow that not shopping at WF interferes w/ a progressive agenda
Whole Foods isn't the only place to find such brands.

13. The CEO put down Obama's health care plan because he's highly influenced by
"conscious capitalism", a mix of progressive values and libertarianism. People wanted to punish him for it. Obviously I only partially agree with him (the part about how people should take better care of themselves), and mostly disagree, but I don't think he really shifted the debate much, and I felt it was worth overlooking in order to support some of the vendors which are putting a lot of progressive values into action with respect to the environment and labor.

4. lol. there is no local supermarket where I live
the closest one is about a half hour drive. Here's my local "supermarket".

http://www.willeysvt.com/

A rambling old country store with everything from boots to groceries to guns to hardware and animal feed.

Which really isn't so crappy anymore; they've remodeled, are bringing in more local/NC foods, and expanded the international selections.

I don't boycott wf just prefer tj's. Maybe I should start a thread on how involved they are at local levels with supplying food for local foodbanks.

This Whole Foods Whoring is getting a bit grating.

15. It's going to take more than that to get me to go to Whole Paycheck.
There are better and cheaper alternatives here in Austin.
And Mackey is STILL an asshole like he's been for the 30 years since I first met him.

Next you'll want people to buy a Dell.

18. Most supermarkets have such websites. Whole Foods sucks.
They are all hat and no health. High prices, bad service, cynical marketing and skin deep sustainability. Whole Foods came sniffing around here, wanting to build one of their markets, and this town sent them packing, we have far better markets doing the same thing for real, not Corporate Knock Off style.

22. New Seasons has had them beaten recently and earlier too when they were playing "monopoly"...
... with their "Wild Oats' chain purchases up here in Oregon.

http://www.newseasonsmarket.com/dynamicContent.aspx?loc=995&subloc=1&menuId=292

Whole Foods was sneaky in basically claiming that they needed access to New Season's financial records to "prove" that they wouldn't be a monopoly when they bought Wild Oats around here. What a lame rationalization for stealing competitors' financial records. New Seasons' complying would have only made Whole Foods likely monopoly that much worse!

http://newseasonsmarket.blogspot.com/2008/11/were-just-trying-to-mind-our-own-local.html

That started an earlier boycott of WF's up here before their CEO opened his mouth stupidly on health care more recently.

21. We had a lovely food co-op, with great food, low prices, great health info, and liberal politics...
until Whole Foods shut it down.

Whole Foods threatened to drop any businesses that sold to the co-op. All of a sudden there were no farmers, no distributors.

It was disgusting behavior, worse than Walmart.
