Good night and good luck, Katie!1

(Somebody had to do it!1)

That said, I've been on the defending side of her in the small amount of time that she has been a topic. But then, I've also not watched her much, not even when she was on Today ("Today" not "The Today Show"!1).

In general, she had Dem family roots, and that one zinger on Quitter was worth the $15M/yr for all those 5 yrs.

But she committed the over-thinking that fat salaries cause people to do instead of going with their guts and not sticking with what their core attraction is: Her first day, she featured LIMBOsevic in a piss poor baiting to run away from the perception that she was Lib and to appeal to the demographics of older viewers for network news. And at this late date, she ended her last day featuring Hillary CLINTON!1 Shoulda had the guts to do it t'other way around, Katie -- maybe not Hillary, maybe a not-Dem/Neutral guest, but not LIMBOsevic evah!1

Plus there was a bitter old small timer telling Mistah KURTZ a few weeks ago that the word was that she had the rep for not wanting to work too hard, didn't really want to fly for hours just to have an international landmark behind her. Her stint in Egypt, like Anderson's, ended with the two of them skeedaddling back, while Diane just stayed in NY, with a map of Egypt on the studio floor, and Diane stalking around the map in her spike heels and all hunched over, pointing "there" and "there" at the floor (map). But Diane was close to the home cocktail/book party circuit, where all cash rich anchors should know to stay!1

Anyway, it was sort of pathetic. She signed off with a thingy saying it has been an honor, blah blah, and instead of maybe a crowd of staff or somebody hugging her off, she sort of got up from the chair and stumbled around, sometimes with her back to the camera and just looked confused.

1. And so ends one of the least successful experiments
in the history of newstainment.

You might think the network suits might learn something from this classic clusterfuck and at least attempt to return to those thrilling days of yesteryear when something that at least resembled real objective reporting was available to the American people.

But somehow I don't think the message got through.

2. She said it was 'incredible'. Only her salary was incredible.
Her viewers declined to the end, as she fades away with money she did not deserve.
