Some ob-gyn doctors setting cut off weights - turning away women over 200 lbs
Some ob-gyns in South Florida turn away overweight women

In a nation with 93 million obese people, a few ob-gyn doctors in South Florida now refuse to see otherwise healthy women solely because they are overweight.

Fifteen obstetrics-gynecology practices out of 105 polled by the Sun Sentinel said they have set weight cut-offs for new patients starting at 200 pounds or based on measures of obesity — and turn down women who are heavier.

Some of the doctors said the main reason was their exam tables or other equipment can't handle people over a certain weight. But at least six said they were trying to avoid obese patients because they have a higher risk of complications.

1. Holy buckets...
...these are the people who need medical attention and health advice. Doctors should be
helping these people and addressing the health concerns that the added weight causes.

Cancer rates do rise with obesity rates--and you have to wonder if doctors are just
being lazy. Geez, that's like dentists saying that they'll only see patients
who have perfect teeth!

3. This should be illegal.
Lazy doctors who don't want "complications" shouldn't be practicing medicine. People are complicated. Any doctor who can't or won't accept that fact needs to find another line of work.

5. really?

Some of the doctors said the main reason was their exam tables or other equipment can't handle people over a certain weight.

I would LOVE for the manufacturers of said equipment to say whether this is true.
