My biggest problem the DSK issue

Is that people, including, evidently, the French press, insist on using this episode as a way to deride
the sexual mores of an entire society, viz., we are 'puritans.'

I could buy that argument if the story was about a failed pickup attempt at a bar, and our newspapers went
nuts. But the man has been INDICTED on seven counts of sexual ASSAULT.

Are we to believe that our laws against sexual ASSAULT are based on Puritanism? Are DSK's defenders really
that desperate to exonerate his behavior? Is it JUST because he's a 'socialist,' or is Francophilia SO strong
that people here are willing to completely abandon their USUAL response to 'Rich White Man Accused of Assaulting
Poor Black Woman?'

Either way, the equivocation is sickening.

article here talks about how the French think rape is no big deal.

We live in a country where Bush was President for 8 years without being elected.

We invaded a sovreign nation based onm lies, qand all our press carries and does not question those lies.

The French are questioning it because we are a country where authority perpetually lies.

Oh, and show me an article from France saying we're prudes...from France that is, not some made-up crap from here.

The comments about out puritan blood is all over the place. And the mother of the french woman who was attacked by him told her
to keep quiet.

Just one story of countless. You are certainly not reading European papers are you?

They point and laugh at the US and say "for Americans, it's all about money, everything is always about money, sad - shame shame!" and then, turns out, they are scrabbling hard for spare change at every opportunity, just as greedy as any of us are.

Just because you speak French doesn't mean you aren't a crook. And just because you're French, doesn't excuse you from being held to account for sexual assault.

While I can believe some think we're puritans, I can't believe the French condone sexual assault ... at least not the majority of them.

It should be easy to provide links to a few articles where "DSK's defenders really are that desperate to exonerate his behavior", as the OP states.
