Newt Gingrich’s press secretary released a truly awesomely awful press release on Tuesday that Stephen Colbert hilariously sent up on last night’s show (with a little help from actor John Lithgow). Watch the video from Comedy Central, below:

1. this was easily
one of the funniest things i've ever seen on colbert. i wasn't convinced, however, that some people in the audience *got* it (what was with that "USA! USA! USA!" b*shit?)

8. i've watched his show for years
and at times have noted rather muted responses to some of his subtler attempts at humor. given how a buttload of people don't seem to understand his schtick, it wouldn't surprise me that some in the audience would have no clue.

Seems to me he was invited to and gave a monologue at some Repub event a while back and ended up completely confusing the audience. do you remember that, or am i mistaken?

10. he was invited to do the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner
and it was brilliant! of course the press and Bushies were stunned.

12. thanks for that! i tried to pass that along to a friend of mine
who literally couldn't believe that he pulled it off. that -- plus this Super Pac stuff -- imo puts him on a level of genius i haven't seen in a while (Monty Python's Holy Grail comes to mind) ... imo stewart, colbert & maddow could do more to turn things around in this country in a year or two than dems&obama could do in 8 ...

13. it's ok -- i'm working harder on getting that thick skin
needed around here. i'm mostly here for the excellent news coverage -- my mind is slipping in my old age and often can't keep up with the posters on here. but i'll tell you one thing, you guys have kept me from going stark-raving mad the past few weeks since i've discovered this site. please keep it up.

The joke is that Stephan is a right wing mouth piece. They play along.

John Lithgow is the only orator who could do this overdone prose justice. And he did it masterfully.
