FL Gov. Rick Scott to meet today with controversial and secretive Council for National Policy
There is something up with this guy. What it is remains to be seen.

via St. Petersburg Times

Now, amid voter fury that he just signed yesterday a contentious bill to restrict Floridians' voting rights and an anti-consumer property insurance bill on Tuesday that raises our rates, he high-tails it to northern Virginia today to mingle in the shadows.

From the Orlando Sentinel blogs:

WASHINGTON — A mantra from the young administration of Gov. Rick Scott is the phrase “let’s get to work” — a credo the rookie governor plans to follow on Friday.

Just not in Florida. And not necessarily for everyone in his home state. And likely not in keeping with Florida’s emphasis on transparency.

On Scott’s agenda — released tonight — is a meeting at a Ritz Carlton in northern Virginia with the Council for National Policy, a group of conservative leaders that describes itself as a defender of limited government, a strong military and Judeo-Christian values.

The group also has a reputation for secrecy, rarely making its meetings public and generally keeping quiet about its membership. A good primer on the group, by ABC News, is available here.

On its website, however, it does publish some guest speeches and remarks (which the group notes should “not be construed as the views” of the Council for National Policy).

Among the more recent: Mosab Hassan Yousef, author of “Son of Hamas” and a Christian convert, on the topic: “Islam: Can We Coexist?”

His conclusion was as follows:

“Today I am standing here and I know that the problem is not Muslims. The problem is Islam itself and we are working to expose the real nature of Islam, to our people first of all, because our people don’t know what Islam is all about. And so on the one hand, we want to educate them about the real nature of Islam. On the second hand, we want to give them the love of Christ. This is the best solution for the Middle East crisis.”

Full remarks available here.

So, what is this defrauder of Medicare, posing as governor of Florida for the past 4.5 months, really up to?

to bring about a Neo-Feudal Age. And unless they're stopped (Hint: Obama isn't going to stop them, he's helping), they will succeed in very short order. Their actions have become far more brazen and outlandish, so you know they accelerated their plan. Watch for more of this crap to crop up all over the US, at EVERY level of government.

3. There really is a very small group of Billionaires.....

Including George Herbert Walker Bush and the Koch Brothers, (whose names appear on the Board of Directors of countless far-right organizations.)

They have enough money to buy elections and influence life in America on EVERY level and in every way conceivable.

We are seeing this now with regards to education, foreign policy, the media, the economy and all of life in America.

These people are not going to stop. They are enabled, bold and arrogant. They have been given a free pass for so long by the media and the far right.. that it has become hopeless to oppose them.

When you have the Reich Wing controlling the military, the police, the judges, the courts and the lawmakers... what's left?

The right-wing roots of Scott’s press strategy
By Tristram Korten | Florida Independent | October 28, 2010

… Scott … didn’t sit down with one newspaper editorial board. That was a strategic decision, according to Scott’s Communications Director Brian Burgess.

“Almost all of them endorsed Obama,” Burgess explains in an email. “They praised his health care plans. So you tell me, what is the point in trying to win over people who are so wrong? Rick Scott gets better use of his time going straight to the voters than trying to convince misguided editorial board members to endorse him.”

Instead, Burgess says, the campaign is making an end-run around the tradition of answering questions from editorial writers. “We go straight to the voters by using ads, Facebook, and other social media, grassroots events. And of course it’s a myth that we don’t talk to the press. We do that too,” Burgess writes. “We just don’t waste time with editorial boards because they have already shown a failure to understand reality when talking about health care, or the negative impact of Barack Obama’s policies …

Burgess, who has been working with Scott since before the governor’s race, knows about non-traditional media campaigns.

He is a 1992 graduate of Friends University, a Christian college in Kansas, and a former U.S. Army communications specialist. In 2007 he began work as spokesman for Johnson County, Kansas, District Attorney Phil Kline, a crusading anti-abortionist who had earlier, as attorney general, attempted to prosecute abortion provider George Tiller. Tiller was later killed by an abortion rights opponent. …

Burgess was also known for his tough handling of the press. After he left the D.A.’s office in August 2008, the weekly newspaper The Pitch, in Kansas City, asked Burgess for a comment on Kline’s handling of medical records in the abortion case. Burgess gave a detailed response, during which he complained about the “no-longer-credible Kansas media.” At the end of the email, Burgess wrote: “I really don’t miss some of you dipshits at all. Have fun in your world of make-believe.”
