man with murder tattoo gets 65 years to life

A Southern California gang member who had a murder storyboard tattooed on his chest has been sentenced to 65 years to life in prison for the killing of a gang rival.

A judge in Norwalk on Friday gave the maximum sentence to 25-year-old Anthony Garcia, who was convicted last month of first-degree murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Garcia's tattoo detailed the shooting of 23-year-old John Juarez in at a liquor store some 10 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles in Pico Rivera on Jan. 23, 2004.

The case had gone cold until a sheriff's homicide investigator saw a photo of Garcia's tattoo in 2008 and recognized the crime and details of the killing because he had been a station sergeant in the area at the time.
