My aunt just changed her avatar on Facebook, ready to Rapture!
I'm so thrilled, knowing if I log in at all tomorrow all I'll read are Rapture-ready posts.

Anyone else have to hear about it from family?

1. I wonder what the post-Rapture hangover is going to be like for these folks.
Does it make me an evil person that I'm looking foreward to the entertainment?

3. Even the preacher at her church
has informed her on facebook that there will be no Rapture tomorrow, since man cannot predict the date.

Someone is going to feel let down.

4. She has a picture of Jesus
floating in the air and all the cars below him, crashed and abandoned by the side of the highway.

12. I hope she made them sign them over formally
because there will be lots of 'give me back my stuff' fights after the rapture-flop.

5. Heard about it from family?
My nephew promised to snag me a pair of size 7 1/2 Manolo Blahniks during his rapture looting tomorrow. Does that count?

6. My mom is seriously pissed off about it. Believes no one can name the date...
...and those who try to do so constitute blasphemy.

8. Now that's what I was taught.
I was taught that no one, not even the Son, could name the date. Only the Father knew when it would happen and anyone else who tried was blasphemous.

10. That's no fun. I mean, actually reading and understanding what is actually said.

11. Imagine how different things would be if they actually redirected their energy to the preponderance
of passages:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1143652&mesg_id=1144972

Matthew 25:41-45
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'

Mark 10:21
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Matthew 6:1-4
Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Proverbs 31:8-9
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.

Luke 14:13-14
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

1 Timothy 6:17-19
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

1 John 3:17-18
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

13. Thank you!
My daughter's Sunday School has been teaching these lessons instead of discussing the silliness of the Rapture for the past few weeks. In the past couple of weeks she has quoted the 1 John 3:17-18 verse and the Mark 10:21 verse. They've discussed what it means to be a Christian and the prevailing teachings for her Sunday School have been about charity.

I wish more would remember the teachings above.

14. Spectacular!
That raises my spirits more than anything I have heard in a while now!

There was a Justice And Peace Bible put out a while back, and it is already out of print. I wish I had gotten one.

How old is your daughter?

15. She'll be eleven in June.
She will be transitioning from elementary-age Sunday School to "teen" courses next week. (The "teen" group is for grades six until high school graduation.)

Our church does quite of bit of this type of teaching, compared to some of the others in the area. Our youth group does a yearly mission, usually to a disaster area, to assist with clean up and such and it's always in the US. We have a family mission that goes into areas that need help (usually not disaster areas but areas such as reservations, parts of the Ozarks and the Appalachians, etc.), our college mission has an international mission over the summer with a different destination each year and a US mission during spring break. We also have a medical mission for the adults every year outside of the US that leaves around January 2.

Around town we have clean up and work crews that offer free services to any shut-in or senior citizen that requests them. This could be yard and garden work, weatherization, building ramps, basic handyman jobs, etc. And we also do many more things like food pantries, shelters, Head Start, etc.

She's been raised in this church since she was three. I hope that they have assisted in giving her a good start in what is the right thing to do in her community and her life.
