too many non-white people there, and I'm guessing she will dislike Arizona for the same reason. She has very specific ideas about what constitutes "real Americans" and anyone living in a city or non-white need not apply.

28. Actually, Arizona's secessionists are progressives.
Edited on Sun May-22-11 02:25 PM by blondeatlast
Of course it's only half serious, but the Baja Movement is the good people of Arizona wanting to distance ourselves from the hateful and stupid in charge of the state.

6. Arizona is my home.
I have worked for years to get back into a position to move back.

However, one of the reasons that I wanted to leave Texas was because of the political climate.

IMHO, Arizona has surpassed Texas.

I just bought a house here and have no plans to return back to AZ. I feel bad that such a beautiful state was allowed to be taken over by the crazies.

16. I've been her since my teen years, back when the state itself had a population
You're wise to stay away; the prevailing culture here is not what it was back in the day when Bruce Babbitt and Raul Castro led it. Once my son is out of high school, I may just move myself and it breaks my heart. I just can't take the social climate here.

All those ASU students who came here from out of state to party stayed and Arizona will never recover from it.

23. It is sad.
When I was a kid, I drew a picture that won a contest and ended up hanging in Raul Castro's office.

That was back in the day when our schools took field trips to symphonies and other fine art events.

I also had the honor of sitting next to his box at the Arizona National Livestock Show.

I also think the likes of Evan Meacham, the snowbirds deciding to stay, basically took over the state because the state that I remember was in no way, shape or form like the one that exists today.

The wonderful thing about Phoenix (back then) was that nobody really was FROM there...therefore the cliquish atmosphere that exists in other places didn't exist there.:(

But I don't think many of the "Pissed off and angry party" pursued higher education at ASU or anywhere else.

9. I was going to comment that I thought she'd run for US Senate before reading the story at the link.
I see it's already being speculated that she'll run for Kyl's seat. Guess she's worn out her welcome in Alaska, but thinks she can get to Washington on the anti-immigrant voters of AZ. She may not become POTUS, but there's still a lot of money to be made in private (as opposed to public) service.

17. Not by a long shot. Bristol's is a relatively ordinary tract home
in a working class suburb.

The house momma bought is in a very, very, very chi-chi area because you know, she's such a woman of the people 'n all...

I have in-laws who are in the area that I'm guessing the house is in (from the link above) but there's is a much more modest home.

32. Me too. He strikes me as a total Alaskan through & through. I got to know many of that type
when I lived up there, and nothing would horrify them more than the thought of living "Outside".

I purposely avoid expending any time or energy on following Palin news, but my impression is that Todd's been keeping pretty far in the background for quite awhile. Does he ever show up in the media up there?

If their house goes up for sale, I imagine the Valley is going to have a field day with that news!

I trust you'll keep us Outsiders posted! :D

34. Oh, yes, I'll keep you posted.
Todd and his snowmachine partner did the Iron Dog this year again, which is about the most news I've heard from him, other than the prostitute scandal with Shailey Tripp a few months back. The common wisdom is that he's just not that into Sarah anymore, but they've been keeping up appearances for the media.

As for the "Lake Lusill" house, I wouldn't be surprised if Track and Brita move in there to keep it in the family. That way it wouldn't be so obvious if old dad is holed up there, too.

Todd's no shrinking violet by any means (since he was basically the shadow governor when Sarah was in office here), but I don't think he cares all that much for the bright lights and big city stuff.

Stop the state hate. There's a lot of institutionalized disenfranchisement here--particularly directed against our Latino/Hispanic population.

35. I don't think so.
They did some improvements on the sports center house in Wasilla and have a couple of pretty nice "cabins" (that they didn't pay taxes on) out in the wilds, but I don't know anything about a full-on new house.

42. Right. I knew about that.
I didn't really consider that a new house per se since it's on basically the same property. My theory is that this is where Track, his new wife and Todd will spend much of their time. (Just a theory, mind you.) As I was discussing with ScarletWoman above, I just can't see Todd leaving Alaska.

hookup and run together. Don't know why, just this horrible, horrible feeling. No way will she run for 2nd place on the ticket again, though, so she will pick him as running for VP.

Ick, that thought always makes me thought up a little in my mouth when I think it.

Don't say gay. Wackadoodles all through the south. I see no hope until the republicans have finally taken away all your social rights then these low working poor are going to start realizing they have been had. But of course it will be to late.
