A new twist in the Rupert Murdoch Phone Hacking Scandal just made things an all new ball game
Holy cow! A whole new twist just happened in the News of the World phone hacking scandal. So far Rupert Murdoch's Newscorp is being sued by celebrities, sports stars and politicians but everything just changed. The first lawsuit from a rival paper's writers is accusing Newscorp of hacking into the phones of rival papers to steal stories. Not only they are saying that Newscorp got passwords from their emails that allowed Rupert Murdoch's minions to access the computers and databases of rival papers to see what they could steal.

I do believe that this means a violation of many international/British business laws. I do believe we might start seeing some Titans of publishing start duking it out in the headlines.

Please enjoy the article. It should bring you great joy if you dislike corporate news and FOX broadcasting.

16. Can't say for sure
but I read an expose a while ago where Murdoch was described as always having been a muckraker who relishes nothing more than destroying anyone's reputation, a workaholic with a single-minded dedication to "stick it to his betters", i.e. people who are considered more beautiful and successful than he. What I gleaned from the interview with Rupert was that he fits the classic profile of a sociopath: devoid of empathy, scruples, remorse, a functioning conscience.

Thus Rupert finds himself in the company of his peers - the so-called world elites. It was Bill Clinton who granted him American citizenship for a bundle of millions in payoff IIRC.

39. US media would see this more of a UK issue of medium importance.
Therefore it won't get covered.

They see News of the World as its own entity, completely ignoring the fact that it is part of NewsCorp.

Come to think of it, the US isn't giving it any coverage. Typically UK stories hit the US news if it is of the magnitude to warrant 24/7 broadcasting by BBC and massive coverage in all of the UK papers.

38. Considering who has been hacked into by News of The World...
this will be resolved sooner rather than later. Just like American justice, British justice can be slow - especially at the higher end. However with the right people the wheels get some extra grease and things move much more quickly.

I would expect the bulk of this case to be sorted out in months, not years.

37. Sometimes broadcasters will take other broadcasters feeds.
It's not necessarily stealing. When Gulf War I came about with the US missile strikes on Baghdad the BBC didn't have a correspondent there. CNN had live coverage as they were the only guys there. BBC took their feed and aired it - giving full credit to CNN of course.

It's OK with permission and acknowledgement to take breaking news from a rival broadcaster if it is THAT important. Fox may have had no coverage of Challenger tragedy, whereas CNN had the coverage.

Also would have made sense. Challenger happened in 1986. Fox News didn't come into existence until 1996 - ten years later. CNN was the only main 24/7 news channel around at that time.

33. If nothing else, it'll make other media barons less inclined to close ranks to protect him
When it was just celebrities and politicians who were protesting, the rest of the media might have taken the attitude that "he's one of us, and we need to cover his back", like the thin blue line crap that shields bent cops. Now they've found out that he's stabbing them in the back, expect them to turn on him fast.

He's got people that get in front of cameras regularly upset, and has embarrassed some powerful folks. He can try to make this one go away, but I suspect it's just going to get worse as time goes by.
