Patricia Heaton Has Lost Potential Roles Because of Her Politics
Edited on Sun May-22-11 05:45 PM by XanaDUer
SNIP: Known around left-leaning Hollywood for her conservative stances on weighty issues like abortion and stem cells, 'Everybody Loves Raymond' star Patricia Heaton is happy to explain how important her Christian faith is to her and how it shapes her views and career choices.

"My feeling is all these things come from God and as long as I know I'm staying in line with Him, I don't have to worry if there is backlash," she told me during a visit to AOL's New York offices. "God will open any doors he wants to open and if he closes doors that's fine to (sic - I think they mean 'too').

Telling me that she has many gay friends and doesn't oppose gay marriage, Patricia gets frustrated being automatically lumped together with other conservatives, a characterization she says has cost her possible work.

2. That's her story anyway
She probably lost the roles because she has no talent.

Did it ever occur to her that people don't give a rat's ass about her "Christian faith"? It's supposed to be between you and god isn't it?

let me guess (as somebody who at least studies acting!) what part of unsuccessful was she?

Seems like sour grapes on her part. Nobody can be on top all the time. :eyes:

56. Not Just A Regular, But the Female Lead!
Edited on Mon May-23-11 11:15 AM by Yavin4
She then got another female lead on a Fox TV show, which failed. Yet, she bounced back last season with yet another female lead on a sitcom.

Ask any actress and they will tell you, getting regular commercial work is considered success in acting. Getting three female leads in a row on NETWORK sitcoms is like hitting the lottery three times in a row.

4. she is a one trick pony actress.
she plays a broad stroke shrew very well. She doesn't have much in the way of depth or layers to her work. She is very one dimensional, very one level player. When you have such limited skills in such a competitive field, it doesn't take much to disqualify someone.

And I'm sure God will keep her good company long after she's gone the way of "Patricia who?" in her career. I mean, let's face it, who do you really think of from Everyone Loves Raymond after Ray Ramono?......Doris Roberts...Peter Boyle.....???? maybe even Brad Garret, but Patricia Heaton is pretty much an afterthought if at all.

6. 2 things 1) does she have any evidence she lost work?
or is she just declaring herself another persecuted Christian?

2) I am an old guy. When I was young I used to hear the phrase "Some of my best friends are black (negro etc) probably once a day. Now about once a week, I hear the phrase "I have many gay friends" or some variation. I love it when they play the oldies.

based on lyrics like "We'll put a boot up your ass, it's the American way," rather than the genre of music. Not a very Dem sentiment, but I guess the big tent covers many.

12. There is no evidence that this happens in Hollywood
If you are a good actor and a good fit for the part you will get it, unless you are a royal pain in the ass on the sets.

John Voight, Kelsey Grammer, Sly Stallone and Candace Cameron-Bure have no trouble finding work.

I think more people probably know who Patricia Heaton is. But you're right about these others not having trouble working. Well, wait... for that matter, Ms. Heaton's been working pretty steadily, too. Even if true that she has been turned down for projects, she's still been offered plenty of others.

24. It's possible that it has lost her jobs
However, there are two sides to that story as there is also a history of conservative Christian actors who refuse to do certain storylines. It's like a model who refuses to do nudity not booking many jobs. I would be weary to hire someone whose views might impact their collaboration on my creative work. That said, Patricia Heaton should be the last person complaining about this. Actresses lose out on work due to many factors - most especially age, race and size - and making millions of dollars on a long-running hit series is actually pretty rare. No actor who has achieved that should spend much time complaining considering how many struggling and out of work actors there are, and have been, in the history of the entertainment industry,

37. Good
She's an embarrassment to the Ohio State University. Her new show is terrible (her character is a blatant rip-off of the mom on "Malcolm in the Middle"), and she was the weakest link on "Everybody Loves Raymond." At least we still have Richard Lewis, though.

Just another "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" Republican crying about how she's a "victim." They DO love to throw that albatross around their OWN necks and cry, "Poor, poor me," don't they?

I'll admit I like The Middle, but it is the rest of the cast that makes it good. Her husband and three kids are pretty funny and seem like good actors. The guy who plays Axil got an award for his role in Mystic River, I think.

Ray Romano tells a very funny and revealing story of how his wife does not like his love scenes in his new series. He said she was never concerned about it on the old show as his wife knew what Patricia Heaton thought of him. As in she hated his guts.
I like Romano's new show Men of a Certain Age. He has become a fairly good actor and the show is well written.

Heaton's new show is such a ripoff of Malcolm in the Middle is it any wonder it is called The Middle? I swear they just cloned the kid who played Dewey.

You don't get much work because you are a one-trick-pony.

Your claim to fame is as an average-looking, 40-plus "Mom" actress..and they are a dime-a-dozen.

You wear your politics & preachiness like a badge of honor, and most people are not all that interested in your philosophy..why would they want to hire you and have to listen to all that shit every day? There are many other actresses who can do the job, and who are interested in the work..not in converting everyone they see.

50. There are far more successfull actors
who are much more conservative than Patricia Heaton. Fred Thompson, Angie Harmon, Jon Voight, Gary Sinese all come to mind. The fact is she doesn't have the dramatic range to take on many other roles. She was ideal in "Everybody Loves Raymond" but her other work just hasn't been very good. And her religious views have nothing to do with her political views. I've known deeply religious people who are quite progressive. On the flip side, just look at how the conservatives worship Ayn Rand, who wouldn't even let you into her club if you weren't a vocal, proselytizing atheist.
