Rapture didn't happen Saturday, but many in Michigan believe world will end one day

6:16 AM, May. 22, 2011

<snip>In the scenarios described by LaHaye and Camping, many would suffer if they are not drawn up to God during the Rapture.

"We might want to ask why so many Christians seem to take joy in the prospect that those who would be "left behind" in their scenarios would suffer," Cornwall said. "I fail to see anything Christian about such thoughts."

People who are less educated are more likely to believe that Jesus Christ will return, according to a Pew survey last year.

About 19% of Americans with college degrees believe that Christ will return by the year 2050. That increases to 35% for those with some college education and to 59% for those with a high school degree or less, according to a 2010 survey by the Pew Research Center.

2. Why shouldn't they want non-believers to suffer? Their religion teaches them that....
God tortures for eternity the vast majority of people who have ever been born (non-believers).

3. Part of which is at the cognitive dissonance with unaffiliated
Evangelicals.

I prefer the version i was raised with - you believe, are baptized & that's it.
Worrying about the end times & making predictions is heresy.

I like the even newe ideas that ALL are welcome at Gods Table... & we are all - at any time available to the Grace of God.

4. Yes, but--
They seem to take particular delight in "punishing" those they deem "unworthy" in the here and now.

Jesus loves you unconditionally as long as you do EXACTLY what he says.

5. thats because they equate SPIRITUAL justice with TEMPORAL justice...
Edited on Mon May-23-11 10:16 AM by Volaris
because ACTUAL spiritual justice is a concept they can't wrap their little, fear-filled heads around. No surprise there, though, being as they can't grasp the concepts in a High School biology class, and we all know that they would absolutely FAIL an Econ. 101 exam...
