23. I looked around everywhere.
We no longer have any watches or warnings but there were quite a few people out on their porches watching the skies.

Now it's just dark.

8. I thought I'd heard TWC guy say that the hospital had only 5 min warning.
Clearly not enough for a hospital. I wonder how much warning they had at that Walmart? I don't see how anyone could have survived that.:(

19. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Amazing. Tragic.
Even The Weather Channel veterans are saying they've never seen anything like this one, and they've seen plenty recently.

31. OMG...Joplin is 50,000...
I just heard a report that 75 percent of it is GONE.

Holy buckets...that is good-sized town for so much of it to be completely devastated.

I thought this was a small town. We had a tornado destroy Parkersburg, Iowa. So much
of the town was destroyed, but the population was around 2,000.

That's just...unbelievable.

Hoping for the best for the people and for the entire town. The Midwest is really terrific
during a crisis, though. The people are amazing and everyone helps everyone.

if the roof comes off, there's no way to seek shelter. no walls or smaller rooms to hide in. it's just open space from front to back

33. It looks like a warzone up there
I'm about 25 miles south of Joplin, and do a lot of business/time up in Joplin...the tornado hit one of the biggest arteries of the town in terms of business/housing. The Walmart, Home Depot, Payless, Dollar Stores, and a huge number of other business(including Academy Sports) have taken critical damage. From the local reports, a confirmed 24 dead, at least 4 from St. Johns...
