We have friends in the 2500th block of West 20th St in Joplin
Can't get hold of them and I don't know how to use Google Earth--but I keep hearing about body bags being requested on 20th Street....can anyone check and see what the damage is to that area? Please?

1. Google Earth is not real time, so...
it wouldn't be of any real help anyhow.

Looks like it was mainly EAST 20th Street hit, but hospital that was extremely damaged was just south of area of 20th you are talking about: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1156240

8. Kicking

Fyi spotted this Facebook msg on the Jasper police scanner link.

Jessie Kraft
KOAM states the Tornado took a path of almost straight
down 20th st, The damage path goes as far north as 7th
Street and as far south as 32nd St. So any road/street
in between 7th and 32nd from the West side of joplin to Rangeline WAS Hit.

May your friends be safe.

9. 2500 block would be about what?
I'm asking if it is near Rangeline, Main, etc.

I have family in Joplin. Two are still missing completely. Five have lost their homes but not their lives. Most of Joplin near 20th Street has been leveled.

10. I don't know
That is what I am trying to find out. The phones (landlines) just get a fast busy signal.

12. Yes, West 20th is not that far from the nearly destroyed hospital.
And this was a very wide tornado.

19. Link to the Red Cross's Safe and Well service, in case they posted there:
http://www.redcross.org/safeandwell/

That redirects to this page

https://safeandwell.communityos.org/cms/index.php

but the Red Cross URL is easier to remember.

I hope your loved ones are safe. I was frantic when I first called Joplin last night and couldn't reach my family there, but I found out later that they're all safe.

21. Happy for you.
Glad you found them. We have found all but one family member now. She was in the nursing home that was destroyed and their phone number is being forwarded to the coroner's office.
