Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire
Rape is often called the ultimate violation of self. A crime of absolute contempt for personal integrity, leaving the women caught in its wreckage to labor under the trauma for years. What reprehensible event could possibly have the same consequences as the spiritual dead zone rape victims are left in?

Well, getting a flat tire, according to Kansas state Rep. Pete DeGraaf.

Last Friday, Kansas legislators approved a ban on insurance companies offering abortion coverage as part of their general health plans. The one exception: when a woman's life is at risk.

DeGraaf, who is in his first term and who is an associate pastor, also called for banning coverage for abortions of rape pregnancies. (Women could get around this if they purchased separate, "abortion-only policies.")

...

Rep. Pete DeGraaf, a Mulvane Republican who supports the bill, told her: "We do need to plan ahead, don't we, in life?"

Bollier asked him, "And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with pregnancy?"

DeGraaf drew groans of protest from some House members when he responded, "I have a spare tire on my car."

"I also have life insurance," he added. "I have a lot of things that I plan ahead for."

4. And maybe men should carry the phone numbers of a bondsman and a lawyer with them at all times.
You know, just in case they rape.

And does the person who has the flat have to carry around the consequences for the next 18 years - minimum? Take care of it around the clock in the early months, closely supervise it during the first dozen years or so, feed it, clothe it, care for it when it's sick, maybe even pay for college?

DeGraaf needs to have a flat tire tied to his back for the next 18 years. After being beaten with it violently and having the lug wrench shoved up his ass.

10. The comments give me hope:
$50 says whenever someone questions him on this, he'll backtrack (aka lie) and say that was "taken out of context".

clearly he's never had a flat and opened the trunk to see the spare was also flat.

I've been raped. I say that this guy has real pretty mouth. It was NOT like a flat tire, and they, yeah, there were three, wanted to kill me after. I got away and hid in a garbage can while they tore up the neighborhood looking for me.
They snatched my 14 year old self off of the street. How do I prepare for that, you sick bastard?
Thankfully, I did not get pregnant, but I do think we should go "flatten his tires".

Wait, he's still in his first term? Does that mean he can still be aborted? He's a right sick bastard, he is.

I suppose the same could be said for politicians buying "additional policies" in case their penises are cut off by mobs of angry women. They should "be prepared". I'm sure there's not a high demand for that type of policy.......yet.

29. They WANT him to legislate his (and their) religious beliefs.
That's why he got the majority of the votes.

This man thinks women should be forced to continue pregnancies that are killing them. He says on his campaign website: "Far too many babies have been killed on the pretense that the mother’s life is at risk."

He also claims on the same website that God prepared him for his current position.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone who voted for this man is as evil as he is. He didn't hide his intentions and inclinations. They knew what they were voting for. This is what they want.

15. I need some help here. Is there, like, a webpage on using your spare tire to prevent rapes?
Or does DeGraaf think spare tires and life insurance policies are a general answer to the problem of crime? Or is this a complex metaphor for some other idea, like, maybe DeGraaf thinks women should carry extra wombs around, in case they become pregnant from a rape? Or is DeGraaf just confused about what's under discussion?

18. Yes. You put the spare tire on top of yourself to prevent the rapist from getting on top of you!

20. DeGraaf believes that being raped is the equivalent of having a flat tire
After all, it's not that big of a deal. Wash up, change one's clothes, and go about one's day. It's just a temporary inconvenience. Plus, if the woman becomes pregnant, well, she shouldn't have been out of the house in the first place!

:sarcasm:

I try to focus on my pacifist side, but dammit, this urge is almost overwhelming. May he be heartily condemned by every woman and man around him. Don't serve this asshole at restaurants, openly boo and ridicule him in public, make his life miserable when he is out in public. It is the very least that should be done. In ordinary times a statement like this would cost him reelection.

on edit: Every time he is out in public he needs to be asked how many women he has raped and how many more rapes we can expect him to commit. :grr:

27. He's opposed to all abortions for any reason, of course
including when the woman's life is in danger. He doesn't consider that a valid reason. From his website: "Far too many babies have been killed on the pretense that the mother’s life is at risk." So, he's lying when he says he thinks women need to plan ahead in case of a pregnancy due to rape. His goal is to force rape victims who become pregnant to give birth.

He also seems to believe that it's God's will that he's in office: "I can see how God has been preparing me for this role through my years as a husband, father, Air Force pilot, financial counselor, pastor, volunteer, Precinct Committeeman, and non-profit board member."
