Though not as politically powerful and all-pervading as your so-called 'values' organisations, we have our own share of right-wingers who consider themselves guardians of morality. Amusing opinion piece in today's paper:
http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/what-are-family-values-let-me-think-about-that-son-20110523-1f0nb.html''DAD, what are family values?'' ''Why do you ask, son?''
Son: Because Tony Abbott is always talking about them. When he spoke to the Young Liberals* in January, he said: ''We support the family and values that have stood the test of time.'' What are these values?
Dad: Excellent question. Yes, we conservatives are great supporters of family values. And Tony Abbott is a good family man if ever there was one. That's why he talked about his wife and daughters in his budget reply. He's just what we need in this country, a PM who understands families like us. ''Forgotten families'', that's what he called us.
Son: Yes, but what are the exact values he's talking about? <snip)

*Don't be fooled; the Liberal party is conservative.
