Isn’t that a cool word? Mike invented it years ago to describe that feeling of looking forward to something with great excitement, then being disappointed when the actual event didn’t live up to expectations. One would imagine that is how many True Believers felt at 6:01 PM on Saturday when the earth failed to explode in a cataclysm of natural disasters and they were not sucked up into heaven.

Ol’ Harold Camping, the 89-year-old fundamentalist Christian and founder of Family Radio who predicted the apocalypse, said he was “flabbergasted” that he was, indeed, still in this mortal coil. Many of his followers experienced severe “anticipointment,” especially the ones who burned through their life savings in anticipation of armageddon.

Harold has likely beefed up security around his compound out of fear of the wrath of his followers if not the wrath of God.

Also up for discussion tonight is the announcement by Atlanta pizza king Herman Cain of his intention to seek the Oval Office on the GOP ticket in 2012. At the same time Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, an early GOP favorite, surprised many of the party faithful by officially announcing his decision to stay out of the race. Wow. With Trump and Huckabee out, and so many notable Governors taking themselves off the list – Mississippi’s Haley Barbour, Florida’s Jeb Bush, New Jersey’s Chris Christie, Arkansas’ Mike Huckabee, Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal and Texas’ Rick Perry – who is that going to leave? Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Herman Cain and . . . Newt?
