Pastor's arrest, suicide stun church

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Matthew Jarrell, the Texas pastor who apparently committed suicide in South Central Regional Jail after being charged with sexually assaulting a West Virginia woman, didn't have a lot of female visitors to his office, said Rick Parcel, an associate pastor at his church.
"I've been here for five years and I've never seen anybody -- never seen a woman in his office without his wife there," Parcel said.
On Sunday, Parcel told Jarrell's former congregation at the Open Door Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas, that he had committed suicide. Jarrell, 41, was being held in protective custody away from the general jail population when he hanged himself with a bed sheet late Saturday.
