And killed 34 American service men in the process.

47. I love Israel and all its people. Certain politicians, not so much.
Especially what they did to Rachel Corrie.
They could have arrested the kid.
Instead, they ran her over with a bulldozer.

Her crime: The 23-year-old peace activist and American citizen,
was working to protect Palestinian peace activists' homes from destruction.

Harbor. What about the UK? They burnt the white house for gosh sakes! That was in 1812 though. How much time must pass till one can be an ally from some other bad event?

59. Japan was no ally of this counbtry at that time, neither was Great Britain.
Logic fail.

Israel knowingly attacked a U.S. warship in international waters, and was a U.S. ally at that time.

The only 'ally' to ever kill U.S. servicemen on purpose.

He's coming off a bit as a military commander giving us our orders. He seems to be lamenting the good old days when his favorite president ran off to invade any Arab country at the drop of a hat, and congress is spending most of the speech on it's feet applauding vigorously.

It's more than frightening enough for me.

I have been watching and waiting for him to come out with his real agenda every since Obama was elected. He has been waiting and planning along with the CONS and a lot of the Dems for the perfect time because they will back him up no matter what he says or does.

How many times has he been Prime Minister or President every since I have been old enough to pay attention to this little game they play he has always been some where demanding America follows his orders, whether he was in power on not..

24. Listening to him speak...
I pictured a group of people moving onto my property one day and setting up a settlement in my fields and claiming that their god gave them the right to take back the land that god had given to their people...and began to threaten me and beat me if I even thought to protest their right to take my property. Then I began to picture a survivalist cult that lived down the road offering to help me drive them out if I would join forces with them and how I would do that...thinking they were the lesser of the evils. Ah well!

against the President to avoid seriously trying to negotiate a peace treaty with the Palestinians and the Republicans in Congress are using Netanyahu to poke President Obama in the eye to prevent a peace treaty from ever taking place under his watch as this would represent a major foreign policy, political achievement for him, undermining Republican chances in 2012.

33. Why did the cable networks carry the speech in its entirety?
I find that disturbing as well. Why would MSNBC for example carry each and every fart erupting from this asshole's mouth, especially after the way he arrogantly and disdainfully lectured our President last week? You would think it was Winston Churchill addressing Congress and asking for the US to intervene in World War II. How many foreign dignitaries get their entire speech covered like this? It seems to me that, on the contrary, any foreign visitors get cut off by the cable news channels after just one or two sentences when they give a speech. I strongly support Israel's right to exist. I value their democracy and, from what I've heard, most Israelis have strong democratic values and are to the left of this POS Netanyahu. I don't understand why Israel keeps electing the most extreme right wing fanatics to their government like this Likudnik filth. And I don't understand why this extremist gets such a prominent platform on national television in America. I don't understand it.

63. Because AIPAC is so very powerful in this country, and they either own or pressure the networks
to support all things Israel, even when they have elected the likes of dick cheney to lead their country. In fact, it's probably the most conservative Jews in the USA who helped get Netanyahu elected in the first place. The Likudnicks are as fascist as those who previously tried to annihilate them. The victim has become the bully. But it's going to come back to bite Israel, just like our arrogance is going to come back to bite us.

And if so, will the media cover it?

Why are there no representatives of Palestine on our media? I remember when there used to be. But, I never see anyone from Palestine on the US media any more.

And yes, it's very disturbing.

The world seems to be moving on from this issue and ready to recognize Palestine. The US has failed miserably to bring about peace there so it's good that the rest of the world are no longer waiting for it to happen.

Maybe Obama realized this and rather than lose US influence in the region, decided to take a stand.

... because they are not allies like Israel is and the influence of Hamas in their government is something that the US does not want to legitimize.

If the POTUS hadn't made his recent claims and then backed off them it wouldn't be as much of a story and I doubt Netanyahu would have received the same attention.

41. Israel
Israel, like every other country, has the right to defend itself. I am and always have been a liberal and have been a member of democratic underground almost from the beginning of the site. The constant negativity against Israel here is repulsive. Israel is the only democracy in that part of the world. They are surrounded by countries who would be overjoyed by their destruction. Israel is a very small country. Giving up more of what they have will make it harder for them to defend themselves. Don't you think the Palestinians will be building up an arsenal against Israel from the time they have their own state? There would be a very bloody war between them eventually. The job of the Israeli government is to protect their people(of all different religions and ethnic backgrounds), not to play games with political correctness.

60. Palestine is a democracy as I understand it.
They voted in Hamas as a governing party after much prodding during the Buxh admministration to form free and fair elections.

Most people don't like Hamas, but the Palestinians had a choice at the polls so Israel is not the only democracy in the region. This shouldn't surprise because Palestinians generally don't like the Israelis for some reason or another. I heard it has something to do with stealing their land.
