I look at traffic tickets, etc. and clearly see a regressive fee. When I see a dude in a Boxter zipping by me at 30+ over the limit, I don't just see an unsafe dick driver, but someone whose livelihood would be unaffected by a moving violation ticket. Should this change? Should the wealthy pay more for registering their cars? More at the toll booth? How about more for food and services? Is it fair? What do you think about this? I say sink'em--they are overrepresented and often earn their dough from having money funneled from below up to them. I could be wrong.

2. Traffic tickets are becoming indexed to income in Europe a bit I think.
I recall hearing of someone getting a very large traffic fine because they had a high income.

3. I believe some states, mine included, have a point system.
I don't know for sure because I don't speed and do stupid stuff(at the wheel, at least) After a given number of tickets, there can be a license suspension or other penalty.

7. In Finland it is a percentage of your income....
Nokia boss gets record speeding fine

A director of the Finnish telecommunications giant, Nokia, has received what is believed to be the most expensive speeding ticket ever.
Anssi Vanjoki, 44, has been ordered to pay a fine of 116,000 euros ($103,600) after being caught breaking the speed limit on his Harley Davidson motorbike in the capital, Helsinki, in October last year.

Police say he was driving at 75 km/h (47 mph) in a 50km/h (31 mph) zone.
In Finland, traffic fines are proportionate to the latest available data on an offender's income.

4. Speeding tickets and food are very different things
If the point of a speeding ticket is to make the driver want to avoid the negative consequences that come with speeding, I think you could make a good argument that higher fines for people who are well off is warranted.

But how would you justify charging more for food?

5. Definitely.
A $100 traffic ticket is a huge burden on someone making minimum wage, but it means nothing to a billionaire or millionaire.

But ask the same people who believe in a 'fair tax' what they think.
