Arizona "Your papers, please" style law to proposed in Wisconsin

MADISON — A Wisconsin Republican has introduced a bill that would mirror some of the tough enforcement measures of Arizona’s controversial immigration bill.

The legislation introduced by Rep. Don Pridemore of Hartford would force local law enforcement to ask those stopped for civil or criminal violations for proof of citizenship or legal immigration status. Those who fail to provide proper identification must be handed over to a U.S. immigration or border patrol agency.

Pridemore planned to introduce the bill earlier but said he wanted to revise the bill to make sure it did not promote racial profiling. Opponents argue the bill would do that regardless of the new language.

The bill would also fine municipalities and counties $500 a day if they refuse to comply with the law.

7. How do you feel about those who get involved in traffic accidents
having to show their IDs? You and I would have to, right? I think there is a huge difference between law enforcement rolling up to someone and targeting them because of their ethnicity and a person who gets into a crash and shows ID. There have been many cases of undocumented people not showing up for court and they didn't have insurance to begin with! The law favors them in this regard because they can just split. You and I are on the hook for any crash we are involved in.
