The man is selling everything to pay for his daughter's cancer treatments.

3. I was just looking at er bills and medication bills topping 200K this morning
If I didn't have good insurance AND a charitable group for my son's disorder working with me I'd be rolled into a fetal position, praying for death.

People in this country should HAVE health care that doesn't bankrupt them. Period.

4. I Honestly Cannot Even Fathom How ANYONE Could Be Against This
What kind of thought process (or lack thereof) do you have to have in order to come to the conclusion that, yes, I WANT to pay more for my health insurance; yes, I WANT them to be able to deny my coverage for any reason; yes, I WANT to run the risk that a health problem will bankrupt me; yes, I WANT healthcare to be so expensive that maybe I choose not to get it; and yes, I WANT my physical health to be directly tied to my financial health.

It's a mindset that just does not make any sense to me. Particularly when the vast majority of the people who hold it do not even come close to qualifying as "wealthy."

7. I don't understand it either. If a small percentage of people actually needed healthcare, I could
maybe understand but since everyone will eventually need it, it boggles my mind.

10. Part of it is fear of loss of control
They believe the right wing crap about the government will control their choices. And they totally don't understand that insurance companies do JUST THAT. I'm a Canadian and when I explain to an American who doesn't want single payer that *I* have far more choice in doctors than they do, that the government has no say in how I'm treated, that I have approximately the same waiting times as they do, that I don't have monthly premiums, and that my taxes are not really that much more than theirs, they just can't handle it. Usually the conversation stops there. Or they say that it works for Canadians because we are a smaller population and it would just NEVER work in the States. (I usually remind them a lot of the shortcomings of our Canadians system is BECAUSE we have such a sparse population and much money is spent on transporting people and that single payer would work BETTER in the US.) Most cling to the idea that corporations are more likely to have their best interests at heart than the government is. Why, I have no idea. Brainwashing probably.

8. For the most part it is because 'murkans are
so skeered that someone might get one penny of benefit they "don't deserve." People who believe this are often racists and always morons.

6. I favor single-payer and yet...
I am appalled at the cost of treatments. If we had government-run healthcare, I would absolutely be opposed to paying those costs to these greedy companies. We have to attack the issue on all sides. To only subsidize costs isn't good enough when they are as ridiculous as these. (And don't get me started on the treatments themselves. This isn't the place for that debate but it's a real one:()

...............when it becomes more cost-effective for you to die than to stay alive, guess what a FOR-PROFIT corporation is going to choose EVERY TIME.
