Last week on Radio Free Dylan I had the pleasure of engaging with Umair Haque, author of The New Capitalist Manifesto: Building a Disruptively Better Business, blogger at HBR, and most importantly, thinker. The discussion was not only foundational to our narrative and endorsed by myself, but validated by you, our viewers, in becoming one of the most listened to, tweeted, and shared podcast to date. Umair brought, what I think, a revolutionary idea to the table — that there needs to be a huge distinction between “capitalists who make” and “capitalists who take,” and the effect each kind of business strategy has on our country. I believe this discussion will help refine the debate to real American values like fairness and investment.
But why do capitalists who take have more fun? Willie Geist, a friend, a colleague, and my pick to be the next host of The Today Show, and Boyd McDonnell give us a comedic rendition of the culture of capitalists who take.
“Act like you’re rich, you’ll be rich. Stop whining, stop whining about the Chinese and “I don’t have a job; I don’t have any money.” Yes, you do, yes you do. You can find a credit card company that will give you a piece of plastic, now all of a sudden you’ve got money. You’re out eating seafood towers, creating jobs in the public sector,” says Willie.Get back to 2006, says Willie and Boyd. “In 2006, we were living big, America was living big. Everybody had a mansion, everybody had a Porsche 911, everybody had an infinity pool, everybody was going to Sandals all-exclusive reports at least once a year, twice in a lot of cases, and then something happened in 2008. The Dollar Bills don’t get us into the numbers of what happened in 2008.”
More of incredible "Comedy Show!" Good Watch...DARK COMEDY for OUR TIMES!
