55% in so far in NY-26
Edited on Tue May-24-11 08:49 PM by LiberalLoner
D - 48%
R - 43%
T - 8%

D is Dem, R is Rep, T is Tea

Only 33% in but looking pretty good so far. Too early to tell.

Anyone else watching Rachel tonight?

Edited to update information as more info comes in

2. Cast my vote for Hochul this evening...
I was number 308.

I was shocked how many people have turned out for this special election.

By comparison, I was 118 around the same time during the mid-terms.

Go Kathy!

12. Yes. But it's an incredibly red district traditionally, and the R's have
spent alot more on this election than they had originally planned. So this might be an exciting predictor of the 2012 elections. Or not. But we can hope.

14. someone (Rachel?) reported earlier that polls showed that more of the T votes would otherwise go to
D than to R, if the T candidate were not in the race. It was attributed to T voters' anger over Medicare proposals.

17. Jack Davis isn't really Tea Party...
Edited on Tue May-24-11 09:01 PM by mak3cats
...he's a one-note Waldo about free trade (but a nice fellow). He was our endorsed candidate for a few elections, but not this one. He was able to get enough petition signatures to get the Tea Party line. With his "save American jobs" stance (he actually ran some time back on the "Save Jobs" party line - one he started himself), he appeals to a lot of union people in this area.

(I hit "post" too fast - edited.)

I do think the union support he was getting has diminished as the election drew near, so the votes Davis is getting are most likely knee-jerk "vote for anyone except the powers that be" ones. I hope!

19. "he has blasted President Barack Obama and Speaker John Boehner for their shared pro-trade agenda."
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0511/55590.html

Davis has poured nearly $3 million of his own money into what has largely become a single-issue campaign against free trade.

He now says that if elected, he’ll caucus with the GOP — but he has blasted President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner for what he says is their shared pro-trade agenda.

While Republicans will surely use Davis’s presence to throw cold water on Democrats’ narrative in the event of a Hochul victory, they should also take note of the potential potency of his anti-trade message.

He brings everything back to trade. “I like Ron Paul,” Davis said of the Texas Republican, who also opposes the negotiated free trade agreements like NAFTA. “He’s my kind of guy.”
