I think it's important to know that most of Democratic Underground likes Barack Obama.
:bounce:

What this means is that when you would like to post positive comments, or ways to move forward to win in 2012, you can know that you're amongst friends. Take this as an encouragement to score one for Obama, and the rest of the Democrats.

It also paves the way for a less-divisive DU; when you know that you have most of us behind you, there's not as much need to worry about the overall impression of Obama on DU, and we can spend more time thinking about ways to get more Democrats in power, and getting more people to support our opinions of today's issues, knowing that we are backing each other up, and that we have Obama's back, and we're backing up the rest of the Democrats!

1. I like him just fine
It's some of his policies that I have a problem with.

I trust your judgment and see that your heart is in the right place. Not that you need me to say it but - just sayin'.

16. In a sense I like him too, proud2BlibKansan
Obama is a nice guy.

It's just that I'd like to see someone who stood up more for liberal principles -- who at least argued for them. Obama lets the Republicans, the corporations and Wall Street walk all over him. And that I do not like. Nor should any American.

18. I agree completely
I think I'd enjoy his company. He is a bright charming and caring individual. I'm glad he won the election; the better man is now our president.

But his education policies SUCK. That's enough for me.

7. Beat me to it.
Articulate, intelligent, and a nice guy, but fails at policy. I just think he needs to realize he can't be all things to all people and his enemies will never be appeased.

9. I think that some dissent is necessary in a democracy
And thus, many of us only like Obama because he's better than the alternative, RepubliCON.
AFAIC, he rejected Medicare for all, wants more nuclear power, more drilling, not enough money to pull us out of recession. That's only a few, but we can disagree, and have a civil discussion.
I don't have to like the man, he's far too middle-of-the-road for me.

12. I have nothing against Barack Obama...
Edited on Tue May-24-11 09:24 PM by CoffeeCat
I was a precinct captain for him and I think he is a very decent man and a caring
father and husband. He's actually not a narcissist, like the last several presidents
we've had.

I didn't expect miracles. I didn't even have a "wish list" of items that he needed
accomplished...or else. I know this is going to take a while and I also realize that
he can't do it alone. We have to be the catalysts of change--with Obama supporting us.

With that said, I am disappointed because the absolute worst crises that this country
faces--which threaten the very foundation of our democracy--have become worse under Obama.

If we don't get corporate power untangled from our political process--then we no longer
have a democracy. We have a bunch of corrupt politicians serving the corporations--and
that is not a democracy. Wall Street, the banksters, the oil companies, the health-insurance
companies and big pharma--have all had their way with us during Obama's tenure.

Also--our freedoms, constitutional rights and privacy are still in peril. The recent
news on the government being able to spy on us, without warrants and without revealing
why--is very disappointing. I elected Obama to put a dent in this nonsense. After all, he
did tout that he had been a "Constitutional scholar" who taught Constitutional Law classes
to law students. He even promised to return Habeas Corpus--which was not done when he
had the chance.

There is nothing wrong with questioning these things and wanting our government to do better.

17. Your premise seems meaningless, IMHO. I can't think of
Edited on Tue May-24-11 09:34 PM by Laura PourMeADrink
anyone here who would:

...not say something against O if they felt like it
...care whether others agree
...give one iota of concern about the overall pro-anti Obama factions at DU

However, I do agree....there is an infinite wealth of knowledge, creativity, energy and commitment here at DU. Trouble is, there
is no vehicle to harness it (logistics...people come in and out, posts fall off) and the DU Corps (as far as I know) hasn't done
a single positive thing in ages. Thought it was set up to to actually make a difference. No.

At least in the eyes of the Pakistani children who just lost their parents to the Predator drone attack on their house. That is if the kids themselves weren't killed.

I'm sure I'd like lots of politicians, even Romney if someone asked me but that's entirely different than liking their policies.

Now, why don't you post the more relevant question:

'Rec if you like President Obama's policies'.

I bet you won't ~
