" ...TRUTH IS THAT PAUL RYAN LOST THIS SEAT FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ...."
" In the first test of the GOP’s plan to privatize Medicare, Democrat Kathy Hochul has defeated Republican Jane Corwin in a special election for the House seat in NY-26. With 66% of the votes counted, Hochul was declared the winner with a 48%-43% lead. Sensing defeat Republicans started spinning this race as a three party affair and were already looking to blame their loss on Tea Party candidate Jack Davis, but the truth is that Paul Ryan lost this seat for the Republican Party.
Even though conservatives and their outside groups spent $8-$9 million to try to keep the seat in the Republican caucus, no amount of outside money could swing voters towards supporting a candidate who would support the privatization of Medicare. This race was all about Medicare. If the Democrats needed any more proof of the power of the Medicare issue, they got it in this special election.
All of those House Republicans who voted to kill Medicare have to be shaking in the boots after seeing a solid Republican district turn Democratic due to the Medicare issue. This should be a bright red neon sign for Democrats that they must press the advantage on the Medicare issue. Usually special elections don’t have a national impact, but this one will.
Every single Republican who voted to privatize Medicare now has a noose around their necks. If Republicans aren’t fleeing the Ryan budget by tomorrow morning, they will deserve the tidal wave of losses that they are poised to take in 2012. Republicans were hoping to run on Obamacare, but now they will be on the defensive and looking to hang on for dear life.
