Paul Ryan is on every network this morning doing damage control

The mere fact that the guy is on Morning Joe, then Fox and Friends, and also on CNN shows that the GOP leadership knows what last night meant.

And in each case, he is parroting the line "A Democrat running as a Tea Party candidate resulted in the win" for Hochul.

Two things about that:

- If the Tea Party guy was truly a "Democrat" as you say, then the Democrats combined to get 55% of the vote in NY-26. Not good for you.

- You're unwittingly stating that Tea Partiers are dumbshits, since they couldn't discern the fact that the "Tea Party" candidate was a Democrat in disguise. Do you really want to go around calling your base constituency idiots? Good luck with that...

Yes... Hochul only got 47%. But that's double what the Democrat got just 6 months ago in the November elections.

If you think this vote wasn't about the Paul Ryan Medicare-dismantlement plan, then you are in for a big surprise next November.

2. I was too busy to watch Ryan on Morning Joe today...
I was wondering what spin he was gonna come up with. You are spot on with your analysis.

If this is the best the pukes can come up with, they are down the crapper for sure...

3. it must have been great when they had Hochul on to respond !
she surely asked a bunch of questions that popped that bubble. Right?

...sadly, I'm kidding. But I would really like to know what would happen if Hochul called in during those broadcasts. Would they put her on air? why not? I wanted John Kerry to call or just show up at CNN during the weeks that they were running all the Swift Boat lies but the answer from Team Kerry was 'we will ignore this and it will go away.'

9. I can't argue with this statement ...
Unless something really strange happens in the next 12-15 months, we're all pretty sure that Democrats will keep the Presidency & possibly win back the House ... once again having a majority. So, what then? They had 2 years of total control and really did poorly at their job, as a whole.

I think its important that voters, voting Democratic, write their elected officials and tell them its time to start WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE. Its time to seriously put the pressure on our Washington representatives to perform their jobs. All these problems facing them now, is solvable without putting most of the load on middle class taxpayers. Democrats have got to implement a fair, balanced approach for paying DOWN the debt ... unlike the last 3 Republican presidents have done.

6. Now Paul Ryan says it's not a voucher program?
Edited on Wed May-25-11 08:27 AM by MacNfries
Guess I'm a bit confused now. I happen to catch Paul Ryan on "Morning Joe" this morning. He was specifically asked his opinion regarding the Democratic win in NY yesterday. Ryan says the Democrats won because Democrats demagogued his Medicare Health Plan and scared the senior voters to save Medicare by voting Democratic. I won't argue with that one way or the other, but what did surprise me is he was then asked about his Medicare Plan voucher program, and get this, Ryan says, and I quote, "my proposal has never been about a voucher program". Huhhhhh! I mean, practically all the Republicans think its a voucher program as I've heard several Republicans specifically talk about Paul Ryan's voucher program. He also followed up with saying that if Congress didn't fix Medicare NOW, that in 8 years both Medicare & Soc. Security would be bankrupted and today's current retiring citizens could likely get NOTHING.

Same old "scare tactics" Republicans it sounds like to me!

12. His way isn't the only way to save it.
We have right wing loons writing in our local paper now, saying the same shit, that medicare has to be fixed. It makes me mad that they believe the only way to fix something is to dismantle it. Raise taxes, that'll fix it.

Also, what has been left out of the debate is that anyone under 55 won't even be able to get their vouchers or tax credits (or whatever method he says he is now promoting) until they are 67 in his plan. Plus his plan eliminates Affordable Health Care Act, meaning pre-existing conditions and life-time maximums are back in effect. Seniors would really be screwed.

13. but the P Ryan plan is NOT a voucher program, so he says!
Watching Ryan on Morning Joe, he specifically denounced his Medicare Plan as a voucher program. That's the first time I've heard that, as practically all the Republicans have referenced his plan as a "voucher program". Ryan says NO, it will be similar to Medicare Advantage.
Guess this is Paul Ryan's plan to save his Medicare suggestion ... problem is, they have HIM and other Republicans calling it a voucher type program. Guess they assume people will ignore what they previously said ... you reckon?

14. Being similar to Med Advantage
means buying insurance...and if the program is to pay for the insurance, it would have to be vouchers or tax credits or checks. He's just mincing words trying to make people believe that he's not getting rid of Medicare. Many didn't fall for it when * tried it with SS, so I think they'll catch on to this too.

8. I Agree with Paul Ryan
Edited on Wed May-25-11 08:33 AM by Yavin4
I think that Corwin lost because of the fake Tea Party candidate, not because of his kill Medicare bill.

In fact, Ryan and the Republicans should double down on his bill. Go all out. Force their presidential nominee to sign a pledge supporting Ryan's bill.

Keep it up Paul. You're doing fantastic.

10. yup ....
I haven't seen a Republican kamikaze in 2-3 days now ... now Ryan is videoed saying that he never said his Medicare plan was a voucher system. Man oh man ... when will Repubs learn that video tapes do NOT lie?

I wonder if this is just another weird Republican strategy to totally confuse the public again?

I guess they needed another opinion to go with the non-stop interviews of Grijalva, Kucinich, and Schakowsky.
