Conservatives seeking names of WI teachers who called in sick during protests
Edited on Wed May-25-11 10:38 AM by spedtr90
Caught the end of a discussion on MN radio WCCO about a think tank that is requesting the names of teachers who called in sick on any days there were protests at Madison. Wausau has released names. The rep for the think tank was asked what they will do with the names. He walked around that question, just saying the people have the right to know. Would not give an answer. A few comments from listeners were read, and the teacher haters are still out there....
Anyone know more about this? Can districts release the names of people and the dates they took sick days?

4. Maybe if they were repremanded in some way?

I can't see how a sick day becomes reportable... but if there was some reprimand or other action taken against a teacher, maybe that would be a matter of public record.

On edit - from your posted link, it appears that many releases have been made.

5. Callers thought they should be fired...
for being liars and stealing state money. Apparently the list would be the basis of a witch hunt to find out who was really sick and who was at the protest. I can see the Koch money being used to pay TP members to go through the tapes and find these "criminals", run some nice anti-teacher ads. Maybe Walker needs some distraction and groundwork before bringing in more Teach For America teachers.

And who funds this jolly "think tank"?

The people have a right to know.

7. Witch hunt
Though I referenced many of my former educators as such when I was in high school, this is just another desperate attempt by the far right to bring people to their side through intimidation and force.

Much like a vacuum cleaner salesman setting fire to someone's house to get them to answer the door, they have little consideration for their actions. They don't want to know the details nor do they care about the future ramifications of their means. As long as they get the desired end they feel justified.

This is what happens when 17% of the population demands 100% of the representation.

and shouldn't be released. I think this is against privacy laws.

From what I get from the article these are not officials, just private citizens.
