I just spent an hour in the basement with 400 kids
We had at least 3 systems overhead producing tornadoes. It was so dark outside the streetlights came on - at noon. The adults took turns going upstairs to look outside. When I looked, I saw police cars going around the block over and over.

It seemed like we were down there forever. The kids were just wonderful. Several were pretty scared and one got sick. But they were so quiet and well-behaved.

We also had several parents come and instead of taking their kids home, they stayed and helped us with the kids.

This has been the scariest spring any of us can remember. While we were in the basement we were checking the weather alerts on our phones and I've never seen such a frightening radar picture.

It seems to have passed now. The sun is shining and it's just beautiful outside. And we finally got out of the basement:)

1. Stay safe!
I think it's great the parents stayed to help, that makes far more sense than leaving and driving in the middle of a potential storm.

21. From what I understand the parents think he is in a hospital somewhere.
They just can't locate him yet. I can't be anymore specific than that and no link. Just what I remember hearing.

9. Yes!
And I know from personal experience that kids absorb the emotional state of the adults around them in those kinds of situations. If the kids were nervous but calm, they almost certainly got that from the grown-ups.

12. Yeah. Glad the weather passed. Used to live in St. Joseph, MO and
Lincoln, NE. Spent some scary moments in the basements, but only after living in NC for almost
11 years did we have a tornado go overhead!! April 16th in Raleigh--while attending the ballet
in Memorial Auditorium--and it DID sound like a train!

Stay safe!

14. Wonderful that it turned out as it did.
We had that situation last evening and it scares my 63 year old tail something fierce. Our oldest son was working two blocks from the tornado that hit Joplin. I'm about ready to move out west to get away from these tornado's.

27. Yes, come West and enjoy our forest fires!
Eastern Colorado gets some wicked tornadoes, too, if you get to missing them too badly. :)

29. We have those here too
but ours are called prairie fires and they move at blinding speeds too, sometimes so fast that you can't get away from them even. :hi:

26. Of course, there is another round approaching.
Sedalia got it and there's been some damage. A tornado took out the bus barn so alternate transportation plans had to be made. It also took two trailer courts, a greasy spoon, a number of semis, the roof of of Sutherlands, and some other businesses were damaged.

We both lucked out, though I still say my town is overdue. (I hope I'm wrong!)
