Senate plans 5 pm vote on Republican Medicare plan
Senate plans 5 pm vote on Republican Medicare plan

May 25 (Reuters) - Democrats in the U.S. Senate plan a 5 p.m. (2100 GMT) vote on Wednesday to force their Republican opponents to take a stand on a budget plan that would scale back the Medicare health program for future retirees.

Polls show the measure, which passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives last month, is unpopular with the public. It is expected to fail in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

1. I have always believed in the big tent theory for the democrats but....
any democrat who votes for this pile of steaming crap should be striped of all committee titles and removed from the party. Now, I do understand that sometimes that majority/minority leaders will vote with the opposing party - it helps for them to reopen a bill if necessary but I think that is with filibusters only.

This should be an interesting vote.

4. Hey stupid pukes voting for this is a trap, the best of both worlds.
Vote for it and you stand up for insurance vouchers which is not workable. Vote against it and you may be running against a tea-party idiot who will split your next election bid.

7. Right now all Republicans are being labeled as Medicare killers.
Letting the Senators vote allows them to modify the party position.

We should have just left the clear killer label on their plate.

I assume Harry is just trying to be bi-partisan. For that reason I just don't trust him.

8. BUT
Harry Reid has been saying that he would bring this vote for a couple weeks now, so he has to keep his word and bring it for a vote.
If there is no vote then ALL the Republican Senators in the future could say that they 'would not have voted for it'.
This way it puts them all on the record.
