1. Don't you have to live in a place for a certain amount of time
before you can run for office?

12. Not federal office.
The eligibility is set by the Constitution. There are no length of residency requirements.

17. Perhaps it varies by state. Hillary Clinton had not been in NY long before she was elected
to the senate. In light of that, I have trouble finding fault with Palin for moving to a state just to try for an elected office, assuming the law allows it. I guess the best we can do is hope she doesn't win.

16. Unfortunately Giffords is not capable of running for the Senate.
She is not even able to be a congresswoman right now except in name. She will not win a Senate seat in AZ based on sympathy. She would have to run for it. She is not able to do that.

20. Yes, unfortunately that's the case.
The bullet that tore through her brain did lots of damage.
She will be getting therapy for a long time for speaking and mobility issues.
She is a very brave and courageous woman and I wish her all the best.

23. I wish her the best also but I wish she would make a definite statement
about her future plans. Democrats in AZ are all tip toeing around refusing to say whether they will run for the Senate. Meanwhile the Republicans seem to have settled on Flake as their candidate (don't know if Palin will run but I suspect not). We need someone out campaigning now.

4. Why would she want to be a Senator?
She'd be a Junior Senator at the bottom of the Seniority totem pole (and possibly in the minority party) and nobody would listen to her brilliant ideas.

15. She considers herself the Republican Hillary....
She isn't, of course. You can't hide her lack of intellect in the Senate.

7. I sort of thought the same thing
Why move to Arizona? Maybe she has a deal - will get a McCain endorsement or he retires and she takes his seat (no messy elections!) though with all McCains' daughter has said about Palin and her brood ... that relationship may have chilled a lot.

As to why go into the Senate as a junior Senator, keep herself "relevant" politically, develop some gravitas that ou can't get as the governor of a small state (population wise) ... and I won't go on anymore because I can just feel people laughing/vomiting! I am NOT saying I buy into ANY of this - but I think that may well be the plan ... and position yourself for presidential election 2016 - which should be pretty wide open.

It won't work but I think that might be the plan.

9. I've thought that too.
I suppose she is delusional enough to think she has a shot at POTUS but everyone around her can't be that stupid.

It would be interesting to see if McCain endorses her. I think congress critter Flake wants Kyl's seat and he's been around for awhile.

How does AZ feel about carpetbaggers?

10. Wow, if Arizonians elect that lamebrain as their senator - I feel very very sad for the the state
And I can't see John McCain being enthusiastic about having the woman that pretty much tanked his presidential run as being his junior senator.

13. She probably actually has someone semi-intelligent advising her now....
and told her that she actually probably has a pretty good shot of running for Pres in 2016 or 2020 but she's going to have to get a high profile job in Washington, in Govt. for awhile and not quit to make that happen.

That's my guess....is that your guess is right and she'll run for senate and she's lining up for a Pres run in 2016.

14. She's definitely up to something since she just bought a huge house in Scottsdale
But....she is notoriously LAZY.
Being a senator takes lots of time and work. She hated being Governor so much, she wouldn't even show up half the time. (there were even jokes in Alaska about "Sarah Sightings" and "Where's Sarah?")
I don't know her intent, but with all the books and revelations now coming out, she's likely to have an awful summer (and she deserves every bit of it).
That she quit half-way through her term AS Governor is MAJOR damage for her political future.

21. I thought the same thing
Either Kyl's seat now or McCain when his term is up. I wonder what McCain would say about it? I certainly hope he is deeply sorry that took a chance of putting her a heartbeat from the Presidency. Remember that he did used to be a decent guy.

22. PPP did a Senate race poll there at the beginning of the month which included Palin
Edited on Wed May-25-11 03:41 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
She was the top Republican choice in the poll.

This coupled with her recent move there both fuel my agreement with you. She's running for Senator of Arizona.

Given the choices of Jeff Flake, JD Hayworth,
Sarah Palin, Gary Pierce, Marilyn Quayle, and
Fife Symington who would you most like to see
as the Republican candidate for Senate next
year?
Jeff Flake ........................................................ 33%
JD Hayworth ................................................... 11%
Sarah Palin ..................................................... 35%
Gary Pierce..................................................... 3%
Marilyn Quayle................................................ 2%
Fife Symington................................................ 3%
Someone else/Not sure .................................. 13%
