Weather outlook for Sacramento today.
I've lived in Sacramento almost all of my life and I have never seen weather like this. By this time in May we would be in the 80's up to the 100's, but hail and thunderstorms and a tornado ??!! never.

... Strong thunderstorms possible today...

Strong thunderstorms have the potential to develop this afternoon
and evening in the Sacramento Valley and in the adjacent
mountains and foothills. These thunderstorms will be capable of
producing large hail... large amounts of small hail...
lightning... and damaging winds. In addition... funnel clouds and
a brief tornado are also possible.

People living in or traveling through northern California today
are encouraged to maintain weather awareness this afternoon and
evening. If threatening weather approaches... seek shelter in a
sturdy structure and keep away from windows.

The latest weather information from the National Weather Service
is available on the internet at: weather.Gov/Sacramento

1. Now, that IS unusual weather.
Climate change is real, and small changes in climate can cause big changes in weather. I hope everyone stays safe there.

Rain & more rain is what we "enjoyed"!
Just hope this summer in Wilton is not cool like last year..... My garden really suffered.

4. There was a Memorial Day Weekend sometime in the 90s,
maybe it was that same year, that I went to sleep in my tent at McCarthur-Burney Falls campground after fishing Hat Creek all day. Woke up to 6 inches of very wet snow threatening to collapse the roof of my tent.

In about 1987, in the middle of July, there was a storm that dumped about 10 inches in the Sierra and in Alpine Valley, stranding several parties of back-country hikers. No one died thank dog. I drove up the hill through it to meet some folks, who luckily were no where near being in any danger as they were at some dude ranch riding horses that a friend of mine shoed from his mobile ferrier's truck.

In about 2003 Mt. Lassen received 200 inches of snow. In the month of April.

Anything can happen in a state as diverse in its topography and micro-climates as California.

3. We had some crazy hail last week.

By crazy hail, it was like the sky had opened up. The picture I took of the street looked like it had snowed. This is not normal.

Here's a picture of from my front porch.

6. I guess it is nothing out of the ordinary...
but it is blizzarding here in the sierras right now, very wet snow, half sticking on the ground, but totally flocking the trees. If it freezes tonight and the wind keeps up, we could have some power issues and roofs in danger...

but then again, Tahoe gets snow into June sometimes.... but i swear, this year has been a real bumpercrop.
ug...wondering if we will ever see the beach again... :(

7. During the day of the summer solstice in '92
We had thunder-sleet in SE MI, (melted away fairly quickly after the storm passed) and if I remember correctly there were snow flurries in some parts of northern lower MI.

Could not believe that I could see my breath for a couple of hours in the late afternoon, (it warmed up into the low 50s a bit later in the evening) on what is the longest day of the year and the start of summer.

9. There were 8 tornadoes reported in California
yesterday. I know they don't compare to the devastation happening in the midwest but it was just an unusual thing to hear in California.
