Fox Has Week Long Series Berating Anyone Who Uses Safety Net Called Takers
Edited on Wed May-25-11 04:15 PM by sasha031
Fox Business is running a week-long attack on the social safety net, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, labeling beneficiaries of these programs "takers." This messaging comes on the heels of a National Bureau of Economic Research study that concluded that these programs are highly effective at keeping people out of poverty.

1. They're the takers.
Bastards.

2. Who is their audience comprised of?
I'm guessing the vast majority of their viewers have used those programs, or their parents do. I really think FBN is overplaying their hand. I can't wait until their viewership falls to 0.

8. No, the Fox audience thinks they deserve their benefits
It's all those other folks (you know who I mean) who are leeching off the system, getting dozens of dollars they're not entitled to, sapping our country's strength and financial prosperity. Fox viewers are really and truly more upset by the mere prospect of someone getting an extra buck in food stamps than they are in the hundreds of billions of actual dollars squandered on military quagmires.

3. Honestly, I'm wondering if the right has lost touch with reality.
Do they really believe they can turn the American people against SS and Medicare? Do they really not see that they are committing political suicide with this nonsense?

Once again, they're trying to create their own reality, and once again they will fail at it.

5. Fox News Creates an Unreal World for Republicans
They're losing their grip on reality because of it.

6. It think that may be true.
They've lived in an echo chamber for so long that they've started to believe their own distortions.

11. And Fox Pushes Them to the Extreme
What Republicans don't understand is that hysterical hyperbole may be good for ratings, but it's not good politics. Fox News does not represent mainstream America in any way. Their ratings are high in comparison with other cable news channels, but they are tiny when compared to all other cable programming.

7. Recipients of Medicare and Social Security are NOT "takers".
These are entitlement programs in which the recipients paid into, therefore are ENTITLED to the funds.

9. They should look at the states that take more from the Federal Government
than they pay in.

Most are run by (R)s.

These are the real takers. They contribute directly to the deficit by receiving more from the Treasury than they contribute to it, then they have their represent ives in Congress vote to screw things up even more.

19. Like, say, Sarah Palin's Alaska?
The number one welfare state in America, and Josef Stalin could get elected there if he joined the Republican Party.

17. Is "taker" some kind of code word among the business motivational speaker crowd?
I got a near-apoplectic harangue from my sister -- a big fan of Tony Robbins and his ilk -- in which she used the word "taker" like it had some very pregnant meaning among the salesmanship-ueber-alles crowd.

18. It is the usual projection. Capitalist and Reich Wingers are the biggest takers in history.
They are about all on the payroll or have a key to the vault themselves.
