Joplin Pizza Hut employee: Hero manager saved our lives in tornado
JOPLIN, Missouri - At the Pizza Hut on Rangline road in Joplin, Daniel Fluhart is one of the few survivors to emerge from the debris.

“The only reason we survived is because he held the door shut, with a strap,” explained Fluhart.

Fluhart said his manager, Christopher Lucas, saved lives as Sunday’s tornado rolled through Joplin. Four employees and fifteen customers watched from inside the restaurant as the storm bore down on them.

“You knew the storm was serious. You could not even see a funnel, it was a mile wide,” exclaimed Fluhart. “All you saw was a wall.”

Fluhart says his manager tried to get everyone into a walk in freezer, but according to Fluhart, people were being “ripped” out of the freezer into the tornado.

“And then, when everything blew away, he was gone, the door was gone, everything…”

3. A couple of years ago
When I was still employed at Hollywood video, we had a tornado storm come through while I was at work. I was working with my Boss and one other guy at the time we heard the sirens go off. Me and the other guy told out boss we where going in the office since the sirens where going off. He said O it will be fine and started making fun of us for being "chickens". About 5 minutes later he can charging into the back office because one of the big windows at the front of the store shattered because of the wind. There was not a Tornado, but there was extremely strong winds. We all still keep in contact and most of us are friends and we still make fun of our old boss because of this event.

6. "Hero" is a grossly overused term
This is one case where it's entirely appropriate.

8. We just had that exchange, my husband and I.
He said what you did. This man was no paid to do this. He was just doing what a human being does when faced with grave danger. You try to save who you can. This is truly moving.

7. Proving that bravery and service are not the exclusive
property of those in uniform.

He saw what needed to be done and did his best to do it in an attempt to protect the lives of others.
