Poll question: When was the last time you heard a Republican apologize?
Edited on Wed May-25-11 07:01 PM by AsahinaKimi
Okay, we all mistakes. Most of us will apologize for them, but when was the last time you heard someone like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck, Michael Savage, or any Republican Government Official apologize for any thing. Did Dick Cheney or George W. Bush apologize for anything? So... When was the last time you heard an apology out of a Republican?

2. They're masters of the phony apology.
They always use the term "if I offended anyone", which puts the onus on those offended and isn't really an apology at all.

4. Tim Pawlenty said, "I'm Sorry" I Once Cared About Climate
From May 6--

Thursday night's Republican debate was worth watching if only to see Tim Pawlenty try to talk his way around his previous support for efforts to cut planet-warming emissions. As governor of Minnesota, Pawlenty not only acknowledged that climate change is a problem, but also endorsed a cap-and-trade plan to deal with it. That makes him something of a pariah among other Republicans these days.

In a very "This is Your Life" moment, the Fox debate hosts replayed a 2007 ad that Pawlenty recorded for the Environmental Defense Fund in which he argues for cap and trade as a solution for climate change. When asked to discuss the ad, Pawlenty abashedly replied, "Do we have to?"

After trying to explain that he didn't actually support cap and trade policy as governor—he just supported the "study" of it—Pawlenty decided to try apologizing:

"I’ve said I was wrong. It was a mistake, and I'm sorry," Mr. Pawlenty told the Fox television audience, presumably filled with potential Republican primary voters. "You’re going to have a few clunkers in your record, and we all do, and that’s one of mine. I just admit it. I don’t try to duck it, bob it, weave it, try to explain it away. I’m just telling you, I made a mistake."
Pawlenty has apologized for this before. In March, he told conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham that his support for cap-and-trade was a mistake and pointed to other Republican 2012 hopefuls who made similar "mistakes."

6. All the time...
...of course it's usually in the context of "I'm sorry you don't like that we are trying to gut medicare and SS and hand it over to our criminal pals on wall street."

7. When they SHOULD apologize, they double down... It's like an
involuntary reflex. They also ALWAYS floor it at a yellow light . . And if there's a choice between "bad" and "worse", the latter is the go-to option.

13. Have you seen their ratings- Rush & Hannity have lost 30% of their viewers the last 6 months
Glenn Beck is quitting his show.

This should not be "If they can do it why can't we?" mentality. That is shameful we would act like that. We are better than these right-wing screeds and we need to show when one of our own says something stupid that they will accept their punishment and learn from their mistakes.

15. Real republicans have no problem apologizing for the scumbuckets that have taken over the party
I know some 'old-fashioned' republicans - farmers, old college professors and whatnot. They are even more lost than progressives at this point - progressives at least know where they are on the political spectrum and who's fighting them. Progressives are used to having corporate fascists and religious wingnuts as enemies - these old-line republicans aren't. They're going WTF?? in a way progressives can't really imagine.

The reptiloid sadists that currently inhabit the Republican (and Democratic, to a depressing extent) are another matter entirely. They can no more apologize than a guinea worm can apologize.
