2 days after OBL killing, Disney trademarked 'SEAL Team 6', Navy is fighting back
Navy Fights Mickey Mouse for SEALs Trademark

SEAL Team 6 isn’t going down without a fight.

The Navy is challenging Disney’s attempt to trademark the name of the elite squad responsible for taking out the world’s most wanted terrorist.

On May 3, just two days after Usama bin Laden was killed in a raid on the Al Qaeda leader’s Pakistan compound, Disney filed trademark applications to use the name "SEAL Team 6" on everything from entertainment, toys, video games, clothing, footwear -- even Christmas ornaments and snow globes.

Disney's applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filed cover three separate categories of goods and services -- meaning, they don't yet have consumer products but intend to in the future.

But 10 days later, on May 13, the U.S. Navy hit back, filing two applications of its own. The Navy's competing applications sought trademark status for "SEAL Team" posters and clothing, as well as “Navy SEAL” goods and services, identifying the Navy squad as an organization that “develops and executes military missions involving special operations strategy, doctrine and tactics."

19. We just bought our last Disney item.
My son is getting bored of Mickey Mouse (thank Goodness) and getting into Blue Clue's and Thomas & Friends (he's crazy about them). He loves to read and asks me to read him books. His favorite is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom ABC and the 123 books (both). He even has the DVD of Blue Clue's Alphabet Power which has that book come out on view (I know CCBB has a DVD of its own!).

3. That could be a problem if the actual navy got sued by disney for printing uniforms/apparel with
their trademark on it.

This is rather disturbing on a number of levels. Disney ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Somebody in their legal department needs an ass-kicking.

Snow globes. Christmas ornaments. :eyes:

Can you imagine a SEAL Team 6™ fucking snow globe? A couple of little SEAL figurines holding rifles and a little dead Osama bin Laden figurine with the top of its little plastic head shot off, and plastic blood all over, all surrounded by gently-falling snowflakes. It's almost too bad Disney is withdrawing its application because I'd love to have something as deranged and insane as a SEAL Team 6™ snow globe.

10. Disney should trademark "STEAL Team 6"
I think they should graciously "give back" the "SEAL" name to the Navy.

And if I were Disney, I wouldn't be picking fights with organizations that maintain highly-trained commandos...

12. Come on, doesn't anyone want to see the next Disney Movie where
Micky leads the SEAL team into Pakistan to kick OBL's ass?

Goofy could be the reason the chopper had a hard landing,

Pluto could sniff the guy out

Donald could do something

Surely someone else has thought about it. They could make it 3-D!

(for those that can't tell, I'm trying to be funny)

13. THe name Seal Team Six was developed by the Navy
Edited on Wed May-25-11 08:38 PM by Angry Dragon
Is Disney going to the Navy for the use of that name.
The American people own the Navy
Sounds like to me that Disney is trying to steal the name
Disney should be arrested for attempted theft
Throw their ass in jail until this settled

edit to add: It is like copy-writing Army, Navy, Air Force, The United States of America
I claim those for myself

18. If Disney want a SEAL doll let them pay us the licensing fee.
This was bloody THEFT. Oh, and if they get the trademark, CHANGE THE NAME. I'm sure we can find a sexy, manly, virile acronym that will do as well or better.
