Democrats and Tea Partiers are Natural Allies
Yes, Democrats and Tea Partiers have ideological differences, but they have common interests where it counts - at the ballot box. Both Harry Reid and Kathy Hochul owe their seats to the Tea Party, and proper thanks ought to be extended to Sharron Angle and Jack Davis respectively.

What is the ratio of Tea Party votes taken from Republicans compared to votes taken from Democrats? So long as it's five to one or better, Democrats ought to help the Tea Party get a foothold in traditionally Republican areas.

Europeans are well used to seeing ungainly coalitions between parties that have nothing in common. For example, the ruling coalition in England is comprised of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. This means that they're interchangeable as far as Labor is concerned.

So let's hear it for the Tea Party! May they continue to help Democrats win unlikely victories in races they'd ordinarily lose. Hooray for Sharron Angle! Hooray for Jack Davis! May their tribe increase.

1. Republicans used the Green Party to siphon votes.
Turnabout is a fair play.

If Green (and yes, I blame Nader) stayed out of it in 2000, Al Gore would have been President, and everything would have changed, truthfully.

9/11 wouldn't even exist. It would be just another ordinary day.

6. Commonalities
Europeans actually look for common interests with other parties, even small commonalities like for example, shared opposition to a local dam project. These common interests start out small but they can lead to participation in government . . . and that's what political parties are about.

Off the top of my head, one thing I share with Tea Partiers is a fondness for colonial hats and Ben Franklin specs. It's trivial, but it validates at least some of the rationale for the Tea Party . . . their sense that America's true values have become lost.

These people cost the Republicans five votes for every vote they cost us. They should be encouraged.

3. Apparently 60 % of the teapartiers want their own party. And it is pretty high
% for the regular gop. The kochs are up to something but what? In canada everyone else stole the liberals policies... trouncing the Liberals during the election when they had for a century been canada's natural governing party. Perhaps the Koches want the GOP to take over the centre of the USA? Don't know. But I'm sure it is something very creepy.

4. uh, no.
If Teabaggers had their way, they would put liberals in concentration camps. Hardly a thing an "ally" would do.

7. I saw a poll where 70% of Tea Partiers support Medicare.
That is one thing they have in common with Democrats. They believe in taking care of our elderly.

8. Tea Party is a Plague on Republicans
The Tea Party is a plague on Republicans, not on Democrats. We should encourage them, take them seriously, and invite their input. Any group of people that takes five Republican votes for every Democratic vote is a natural ally.

Wear a three-cornered hat. Make them think they're catching on. Take them seriously. And whatever you do, don't laugh at them.
