I understand.

I wouldn't have said it...

but I understand.

It's a bad thing to say and should never be said...

but I understand.

It's easy to let your mouth run away with itself when dealing with the more vile folks on the right. It doesnt excuse bigotry against women or anyone else. But I understand.

Note: My take borrows and paraphrases liberally from a Chris Rock skit.

1. Hey. They let the FOX idiots get away with everything but calling Obama the N word.
A little honesty about one's feelings from the left is in order once in a while.

6. True, but sometimes the W.C. Fields approach is most effective and appropriate...

Woman: "You, sir, are drunk."

Fields: "Yes, madam, I am. And you are ugly. But, in the morning, I shall be sober."

10. That's the spirit! That's the Democrat way! Don't get mad, get even!
I love Ed's anger, but might it end up shooting us in the foot? You know, like George W. Bush anger ended up getting us into two wars over 15 murderous terrorists. In the end, it took 20 good, calm Americans to take care of the terrorist(Seal Team 6). But the debt, death and high gas prices of bush's wars are here forever. Our children will suffer for Bush's foolishness.

12. Ed's intelligent. The shrub thought he was playing cowboys and indians with cap guns.
On the other hand, Ed's not drunk off his ass 24x7.

13. Bush's anger? I never saw it.
Cheney was angry. Bush was...confused. Even when Bush made 'angry' speeches he didn't LOOK angry - he looked like he was trying to please his handlers.

Please, don't ascribe self-righteous anger to a person who didn't know what was going on.

2. I agree. I sort of think he might have been thinking RW media whore but
a few lines got crossed and it came out slut. At least that's the benefit of the doubt I'm gonna give him.

That being said, apologizing was the right thing to do, no matter if the RWers make fun of us or not, or if they take advantage of it or not. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing and take the consequences.

funny how not ONE news network cares when GOP opinionators call Kerry a gigolo, and have been doing so for many years.

8. When Rush Limbaugh did it on mainstream media (ESPN and the McNabb incident) he was fired
Rush syndicates his own show which pretty much means he can say any shit he wants to.

7. We've all said stupid shit we've regretted 2 seconds after it comes out of our mouth
Been there, done that, bought the souvenir tee-shirt!

I think Ed Schultz is one of those guys that wears his heart on his sleeve. He can get pretty passionate about the issues and sometimes that passionate attitude can lead to some pretty stupid things said.

Is Ed Schultz a sexist? I highly doubt it. I've heard his apologize and he has shown remorse for what he has said.

Does Ed Schultz deserve to be suspended for a week for saying it? Yes. I realize that if Ed Schultz was a right-wing crazy on Fox News, he would not have been punished. But then again if Ed Schultz was on Fox News using sexist/racist/homophobic words to do his rants he probably would have a diminishing audience and few mainstream sponsers.

Just because the right-wing does it doesn't mean it's ok we do too. We should hold our progressive talk-show hosts to higher standards because in the long run class will always win over crass.

9. I'm not sure it was intended to be sexist. I consider Hanity, O'Reilly, and Beckkk to be sluts.
They whore for Murdoch and have no concerns about ethics. That's not really gender specific in the political context I think he meant it.

Now the C word (banned from DU) is pretty much cut and dry.

(Note to mods: please excuse this George Carlin quote). In Carlin's skit about the 7 words you can't use on TV, my favorite line is "Twat's twat, and that's that." Some things really don't have multiple meanings, which was his point.

11. The comment was totally unprofessional. There really isn't an
excuse for this kind of on air talk.
