Wisconsin Gov. Walker signs new voter restrictions into law
Source: Raw Story
By Stephen C. Webster

The State of Wisconsin will begin requiring voters to present a state-issued photo identification before casting ballots, now that Gov. Scott Walker (R) has signed a key piece of GOP-sponsored legislation into law.

Walker's signature makes Wisconsin the 11th state to implement the voter ID rules.

Only five Democratic state senators had a chance to vote on Wisconsin’s voter photo ID bill before Republican Sen. Michael Ellis declared the vote closed. It passed by a vote of 19-5.

The new rules would in effect limit the numbers of Democratic voters, according to research (PDF) carried out by New York University. The elderly, poor, immigrant, minority and student voting blocs all tend to lean Democratic. They also have the highest percentages of people without driver's licenses or other photo IDs.

1. What does it cost in Wisconsin to get a state ID?
Maybe we need a organization like ACORN that takes donations to pay for people to get state issued ID's?

3. A Birth Certificate is Required, Which Can be Costly and Time-Consuming to Obtain
ACORN could ferry people to the DMV, but the process of obtaining
a certified copy of one's birth certificate is long and costly,
and they won't be able to get an ID unless they have one.

2. This presents an opportunity to register voters
By initiating a photo ID drive many elderly, poor, immigrant, minority, and student voters could be registered.

4. Yes, hopefully it will get people motivated. The more I know about Walker the more I think he is
evil. Or just a plain old disgusting pile of mutant molecules.

5. It just occured to me that the re-call elections will be happening soon.
I wonder how much that influenced this travesty.
