Has anyone on our side gone to the Iowa State Fair Republican Straw Poll?

My wife and I enjoy politics as much for the entertainment value as for the policy focus. Four years ago, we went to Iowa for the Democratic Candidates appearance at the Harkin Steak-Fry. I think it would be hilarious to see the Republican cattle call which happens at the Iowa State Fair, and it's my understanding that most of the campaigns are freewheeling with the goodies given out before the vote, but I gather you actually have to be a registered Republican to join in the fun. Has anyone here managed to get in?

My daughter went to the steak fry for several years. She was a caucus leader and a student at Iowa State. I think the got on the mailing list for being a registered Democrat and a caucus leader.

She met many interesting people in her position, including Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards. I think I still have a picture of her with EE.

She learned a lot of politics when she lived in a "first in the nation" state. I am proud of her for participating so fully.
