I have figured out the real reason Palin moved to Arizona

Palin-Miller 2012

As we all know, the Republican primary is being run by and for the teabaggers. "Tea Party Support" is being seen as the surest way to win the nomination. And if you're going to attempt to run for president, who better to choose as your running mate than another tea party fave? So...expect Palin to announce for president and to simultaneously announce Joe Miller will be her running mate. Teabaggers LOVE Joe Miller; right now he makes his coin speaking at tea party rallies.

Miller, however, creates a problem: According to the 12th Amendment, "the Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President; and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes of each..." I see no reason why Palin and Miller could not both be from Alaska, except that the electors there would have to vote for Joe Arpaio or someone as vice president because they can't vote for two Alaskans. Alaska is a three-vote state, so she could win the election without it (God help us!) but it would look REALLY bad if the president couldn't win her own state.

The other thing is, if she DOES run for president it's going to be far easier to campaign if her base of operations is in the Lower 48.

We as Democrats should welcome such a ticket...a woman who got her ass handed to her in her last election running alongside someone who lost a senate campaign to a write-in.

3. That didn't stop Bush.
He and Cheney both lived in Texas, but because Cheney rented an apartment in Wyoming that he never spent a day in, the Supreme Court gave him a pass.

4. The Supreme Court did no such thing.
The issue never came before the court.

5. That is in ALL 50 states.
On the ticket NATION-WIDE the presidential candidate and the vice-presidential candidate must reside in different states.
So, the presidential candidate (both parties) can 'never' pick someone from their state of residence to be their running mate.

If Palin's state of legal residency at the time of the election (or it might be at the time of officially registering to run) is Arizona then she can pick anyone from any state other than Arizona.

If her legal residency is still Alaska, and the Arizona home is considered her 2nd home or her campaign headquarters and not her legal state of residency, then she will not be able to pick anyone from Alaska to be a running mate.

11. Technically, she could pick someone from the same state.
It's just that the Arizona electors could not vote for a president from Arizona and a vice president also from Arizona. They could vote for Palin and then someone else from another state (meaning her Arizona running mate would lose 3 electoral votes).

15. Hmm.. Looks like YOU are correct.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_the_vice_president_and_president_come_from_the_same_state

p.s. I always thought both had to be from different states if they were on the same ticket.
Never too old to learn something new :)

17. Not according to the Constitution
The Constitution very specifically says the electors are to vote for a president and a vice-president, and at least one of those two people has to be from a state you don't live in.

The reason no one chooses a running mate from his own state is he'd have to forfeit the electoral votes from that state. In Palin's case it would be a symbolic thing because we're only talking about three votes. Bush didn't have that option--Texas has enough EV to swing an election.

It would also be a huge "fuck you" to the voters of your home state.

It's legal to run with an in-state running mate, but no one will ever do it.

9. Nope. Wrong.
The real reason is because Bristol is moving in and having a relationship with Kyle Massey. They both were on Dancing with the Stars and they are planning to shoot a reality show together with Kyle's brother about how they moved to the same house in Arizona. Palin is mad because 1. she is dating when she has a young child and 2. Kyle is Black. Palin wants to keep a better eye on her and control her movements. Its already bad enough that Bristol is starting to question her mother's beliefs.

The election is just an added bonus. There is no way Palin will run. She will do the bus tour, earn a million more dollars, and then say she won't run.

14. Ding ding ding!!!!
That's definitely it, she's there to personally make sure there's no mixed-race babies in the Palin family, because I'm sure she would view that as an even bigger disgrace than a child out of wedlock.

He refused to say whether or not she would make a good president. He made the "enemies list" after that one.
