VW opens Tennessee plant with new focus on quality
Automaker seeks to rebuild the brand with a Passat for the American market and a commitment to remedy management and production problems that plagued its first U.S. factory.

Reporting from Chattanooga, Tenn. — Volkswagen, whose cars have been known to have nagging reliability problems, is hoping Passat sedans rolling out of its new $1-billion factory here won't need a lift from the city's historical hallmark — tow trucks.

Nearly a century after claiming its fame as the birthplace of the wrecker, Chattanooga is again in the automotive spotlight as VW looks to regain traction in the U.S.

"We know what we have to do here, " said Hans-Herbert Jagla, who heads human resources at the factory. "Everyone should know that the customer is expecting a perfect car."

2. I've had two Volkswagens a 2006 Beetle TDI and a 2009 Tiguan.
No big issues with either. After my Tiguan's paid off I plan to get a Golf or Beetle TDI as a second/daily driver vehicle.

3. We have a 2006 TDI Jetta and have had more than enough trouble including yesterday the horn......
started while parked in the drive way with no one in it. It had been driven in the rain shortly before and we have seen some weird electrical problems during wet weather.

5. Never had those issues with mine.
The new Beetle model looks really nice too. I really loved my other Beetle, but as a homeowner I need something with better cargo area. I plan to keep my Tiguan after it's paid off then get another vehicle for my daily driver.

4. Given half a chance Americans are the most productive workers in the world.
Only the relatively high wages caused by the powers-that-be using inflation to pay for empire makes Americans uncompetitive.
