My Mother In Law was just saved financially by the new Healthcare Law
She had been retired for over 18 years now and her old union medical policy had a $50,000 lifetime limit. I had told her not to worry about it since the new healthcare law had taken affect...Well the union notified her on May 15th that she had in fact hit the lifetime limit and they would not cover her as a supplemental to Medicare any longer. ( I called the union office and they confirmed and said that the plan was grandfathered and there was not much we could do about it. They suggested that we go to Medicare.gov and check out the supplemental and Part D plans there). This included all prescription drugs...she take a bunch, several of which are not generic yet. I checked on adding her to one of the Medicare Part D coverage plans...The cheapest one I could find had her putting out $4500 a year for her prescriptions in addition to $35 a month for the plan. This did not include Medigap insurance...that was going to be even more out of pocket...She is 83 years old.

Well today she received a letter from the union saying that they have been granted a waiver to the Affordable Health Care Law and they could only offer a 50,000 annual limit. I immediately called the union office and they said that yes there was no longer a lifetime limit (Due to the new law) but there was a yearly limit and that they were re-instating her immediately(it took her over 15 years to reach $50,000 so I am not worried that she will reach that in a year).
She has been worried sick that she could not afford to go to the Dentist, schedule a needed sinus surgery, and take all of her medications any longer. She is has had a great load taken off her mind.

Thank you Democrats and President Obama.

1. Spread the word. Anecdotal evidence like this is toxic to paul ryan and co.

And to his lamebrain, nasty, selfish, shortsighted, mean-spirited, UN-Christ-like, UN-American, UN-patriotic, and actually downright TREASONOUS. Just like he and the rest of his hard-hearted, small-minded, little republi-CON pointy-headed neanderthals are.

It's nothing those assholes don't deserve. What they're doing is DAMNED UN-American, and UN-patriotic! And as another DUer, gop_equals_taliban, observed, CONservatism is a disease.

3. I wish it would have been Single Payer
Medicare for All.

But today I'll take this.

15. I agree completely. Let's hope this remains as only a first step
towards Medicare for All.

5. K & R. We need to get these stories out there - too many people, including Dems, don't know all the
good it is doing and that good is just going to grow.

6. I know a woman who got insurance through the PCIP pre-existing condition plan...
...that didn't exist before the affordable health care act was passed.

She could never have gotten treatment for the untreated crushed hand injury that was worsening, just very high bills from emergency room visits.

Saved her hand and her sanity.

7. Health Care Reform Changes Do Not Apply to Retiree Plans
Because of this it is not mandatory for Retiree plans to lift the cap on lifetime maximums. If her Union has decided to provide additional coverage that is excellent news. A $50K lifetime maximum is extremely low for a Retiree plan so it is good that the plan is secondary to Medicare.

9. Thank you for telling us this
Those of us who support President Obama need a little lift from time to time and you just gave me one. Thank you.
I hope your mother in law has a pleasant rest of her life.

12. Thanks Madokie
She has a lot of medical issues as do many people her age. But this has been worrying her for many years because she knew that the lifetime limit would be hit sometime. It just hit two weeks before the union got it's waiver in order and it cause her much more anxiety. She was afraid that it would suck all of her Social Security payments, small pension and meager savings to make it to the end of the year financially. Now she knows that she will be okay money wise for a few more years. She will be able to pay her rent, utilities, buy groceries and medicines for now.

13. Its getting a little better but this is not the America I grew up believing in anymore
Our President is trying to give us our dream back but man o man he sure his being met with some awful, terrible, senseless, worthless sorry ass republicons on the other side of the isle. They've got theirs and could care less about the rest of us

18. Very well said!
As an Okie by Birth (even have the certificate to prove it), I agree 100%. As an American, I say you have nailed it--this is not the America I grew up believing in and I'm grateful indeed that Obama's trying to restore the dream. Every adjective you used to describe republicons is spot on. May they soon wither on the vine!

Peace.

14. I was on one of the conference calls from my republican rep yesterday. I was in line
on the phone to speak with him. I tell you listening to these people talk about people like us who are informed about Obamacare. They think we are not informed and are idiots. Some say we have to get rid of this healthcare plan. I swear some of these people are working poor and you can tell to hear them speak. Of course it was all a love feast. When someone didn't agree he didn't give them the time to speak. Yet someone who agreed could go on and on. You had some saying they want to make Obama a one term president. They hate him. I mean I didn't care of Bush but I didn't hate him. I didn't wish him ill. This country is so divided. I pray Obama will get another 4 yrs. We need a calm person in office.
