May 27, 2011 1:25 PM McConnell puts Medicare in the ransom note

The Republican debt-ceiling strategy hasn’t been subtle: GOP officials are threatening to cause a recession, on purpose, unless Democrats give them the spending cuts they want. It’s Hostage Taking 101.

The trick has been identifying the ransom. Republicans have said they expect “something big” in exchange for doing what they obviously have to do anyway, but they’ve been vague about the details. “Meet our demands or we’ll kill the hostage.” What are your demands? “We’re not sure; why don’t you offer something and we’ll get back to you.”

Seriously? Fucking let them. Let them cause a catastrophe. That won't be good for the numbers either. They're terrorists and the United States does not negotiate with terrorists. Let them them do it on purpose and see the backlash, especially from the elderly.

2. Didn't you hear? They declared the recession over.
If three quarters of decline is what defines a recession, then three months of growth makes it over, right?

5. not in my neck of the woods
three quarters of the downtown area in my town is empty of businesses -- empty. Strip malls that have 50% occupation is cosidered a wonder.

I guess now that the banks are giving bonuses from taxpayer money, we're supposed to be fine. But we're FAR from fine.

6. Who've probably done more harm to America than all terrorist organizations on the AG's
list: truly the enemy within as clearly and unmistakably demonstrated in the public record for all to see. :patriot:

3. Republicans have discovered a new technique that works...
Governors like Walker, Scott, and Kasich are doing it and they expanding it to the House and Senate. Threaten to destroy the government if Democrats do not agree to their conditions. It is a different strategy than anything they have ever tried. It has tied the hands of the Democrats. They have no idea what to do?

4. It worked for the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts, why won't it work now?

Honestly I hope the (D)s don't blink this time.

Wall Street wants their lap dogs to pass the extension so I am not taking their barking very seriously at this point.

10. And there it is. The bosses on Wall Street WANT
the debt ceiling raised, so it WILL be raised, no matter what happens.

That said, Wall Street also wants Medicare eliminated, so they'll back the Republican threats on this. So it's up to the Dems to grow some testicles and call their bluff.

Or it could be up to us. We might need a people's occupation of Washington DC complete with occupations of Congressional offices and MANY civil disobedience arrests. I'm game. Anybody else?

7. They'll destroy the economy either way if they can.
The more third-world the rest of us are, the greener the grass in those gated communities they're earning access to when they retire from government.

8. Well, if the unemployment versus tax cuts for the rich negotiations
are anything to go by, Obama and the Dems will fold like a cheap suit and the GOP will once again prove victorious in their ploy.
The excuse? "The Republicans made me do it!"
