1. I can't even guess how that happened.
But the kid who put on his bicycle helmet had the right idea. Why aren't they standard equipment for adults in those areas, too?

3. They're still finding the dead and people are still missing
But I hear some of the missing have shown up alive. No matter how much I try I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through that tornado.

5. Tornadoes are weird.
Here in Texas there was one tornado that destroyed a home, killed
everyone in it, and left a bureau standing with a paper check on it.

Another one drove a toothpick through a telephone pole, and another
one put a telephone pole through the trunk of a car.

6. It seems like the physics must change dramatically. You'd think the wood would splinter.

7. That is a splinter
Albeit a long one. We also don't know how much mass was behind it.

9. F=ma
you can only imagine the force on that piece of wood which would treat poured concrete as though it were a liquid. I recall the physics of cut-nails driven into concrete...not uninteresting...

10. Exactly.
I have a feeling that the trunk in the upper part of the photo was attached when it hit the curb. The heartwood color matches, without a close up I guess a walnut tree, but there are other varieties with heartwood that are darker and it's a little too light for walnut.
